I was recently in the hospital for a while. I'm home now, it's all good.

But what I noticed is it seemed like every nurse and nursing assistant were wearing Apple Watches. Many of them were new Ultra models. Even the janitorial nurse had an Ultra on. The one nurse I saw without an Apple Watch looked to have a Samsung model. Hospital staff seems to be huge demographic. I was a patient so I wasn't sporting my S6 Titanium; felt a bit left out.

Has anyone else noticed this with hospital staff or did I just hit a local pocket of fans?

Yeah. We had our third child on the 3rd and the doctor delivering her had an ultra (not in the operating room of course). A lot of Apple Watches though. Must be a convenience thing for being contacted a lot.

Will ditto also have seen in the medical field. Not knowledgeable on hospital policies, but maybe part of the reason is that can keep phone pocketed and can easily see what/when someone messages, emails, etc. Add in gloves, fluids, other things that might make phone use difficult...

It's also big in restaurant industry where restaurants don't want employees on their phones while working, so Watch allows for easy/quick checks, replies.

Add in tracking steps/distance, makes for a useful gadget.

(Saw a thread recently where someone brought up the issue of discreetly checking the Watch when using a phone while at work is a no-no: will see if I can dig that up again)

I work in a hospital and can confirm both the discounts offered and the prevalence of smart watches in general.
I think Apple Watches are preferred due to the fact you can be anywhere within the hospital and still be notified with your phone in the office.
Plus some hospitals have also moved from beepers/pagers to smartphone apps for quick emergency communication and a watch is a much easier item to check than a 6 inch or larger phone
