My macbook charger tip was very hot today when connected to my macbook.

and was charging with 7.3 watts.
The tip was almost too hot to touch so pulled it off with the wire.

I reconnected after tip cooled down and then charge with 12 watts.

got hot again so let it cool and tried again now charging with 33.2 watts and tip warm not hot.

any ideas guys?

genuine charger from my pro 18.5/16.5 85w charger.

Charger tip looks ok all pins ok not stuck down.

The contacts are probably dirty and/or oxidized. This increases the resistance, which leads to heat. Heat leads to more oxidization. More resistance, more heat, more oxidation, more resistance, more heat, ...

Try cleaning/polishing the contacts with a pencil eraser.

That's why I bought a new magsafe port.

port dont look too bad but has some minor brown discoloration around two of he pins.
But the pins are shiney and brass.

I just make do til the port arrives.
I used a hard toothbrush on the port try clean it up.

still gets warm charger plug.

just worried about damaging the charger as they expensive.
