I notice last night that my mega safe power adapter brick was very hot to the touch. The notebook had a normal temp. Is this normal?

Mine gets very warm, I just end up resting my feet on it to warm them up!!!!😛

No wonder it's hot, you don't have a MagSafe, you have a MegaSafe! 🙂 Kidding. Yeah, it's normal for them to get warm.
