My "hot-take" is not everyone is a tech enthusiast and that brand loyalty is a silly concept. I'll go wherever the wind blows, I'm not loyal to Apple simply because I am using Apple products at this given point in time. I don't think owning a particular brand or model of phone is "attention grabbing" in any sense of the word.

I care about what works for me. I don't give any kind of consideration to what kind of "attention" that gives me, and the opinions from other people on what I own and use is utterly meaningless to me.

Loyalty to a megacorp is such a strange concept to me, as is making purchasing decisions based on how they would appear to others. Like what you like because you like it!

I use Apple products because I like them, and thus I am also a fairly enthusiastic user of the Apple ecosystem as well. I'm sure many here consider me a shill as I like many of Apple's products that are popular to hate here, or at least a rusted on user, but if Apple destroys their devices and OSs by making them feel awful to use, to the point I'd rather use something else, then I'm gone. Since I like my Apple gear, and haven't seen anything else that I've liked since the late Nokia Windows phones, I can't see myself going anywhere else soon.

There was a time up until about the time I turned 16, got a driver's license and my own keys to one of the cars in the driveway, that I was blindly loyal to particular products/brands.

But, I wasn't paying for those things.

Once I started buying things on my own, because I was out and driving around and had no parent with me to pay (or who would have wanted to pay), reality set in. How much things cost, how employees of the companies I was 'loyal to' treated me, etc.

For better or worse this experience has been ongoing and now, here we are: I have no loyalty to any brand. I have brands I like, products I like. And as long as those things continue to provide what I am looking for I will continue to use them. If another, competing brand, offers something better or has a better way of doing things, I will buy that product. And so on.

Loyalty to a brand or product is not a two-way street when it comes to for-profit business. There may have been some time in the far distant past where it was. But that time, if it existed at all, is over. The only loyalty we should have is to ourselves and what we like.
