You will need an add-on for Thunderbird to be able to POP from Hotmail. I'm not sure which is the best add-on for this, as I don't have TB set up here to pop from hotmail, just gmail.

You could do it with MacFreepops. In thunderbird, set the account to poll the localhost at port 2000.
