Welp, under more than a decade with iPhone I first time encounter an issue that has real impact on my work.
Iphone 17 Pro Max.
Morning on 26.3 - personal modem is working
Afternoon on 26.4 - personal modem is not working. Devices (MacOS &. Windows 11) can connect but no internet access (172.20.10.1 Destination host unreachable).

Devices are getting IP/GW/Mask information from the IP.

What I tried:

  • Resetting Network Settings
  • Resetting personal hotspot APN settings.
  • Play with the toggle "Maximize Compatibility"
  • Setting up manual IP/Network Mask/Gateway and DNS.
  • Removed all VPNs and Profiles
  • Disabled "Calls on Other Devices"

Modem was updated to 1.55.04. My wife's IP 17 Pro Max runs with lower version (26.3)

Has anyone else been having similar modem or Personal Hotspot issues after updating to iOS 26.4?

Do a restart of all devices. Wireless interference on WiFi or network issues might cause it. Give your operator a call. Maybe a carrier update will be issued

I have a lot of routing problem with 26.4. I opened a ticket in https://feedbackassistant.apple.com

iOS 26.4: Personal Hotspot breaks IPv4 connectivity for tethered devices

Description
After updating to iOS 26.4, devices connected to the iPhone Personal Hotspot via Wi-Fi lose all IPv4 connectivity. IPv6 works correctly. The issue was not present on iOS 26.3.

SYMPTOMS:
- Tethered Mac connects to hotspot successfully (DHCP assigns 172.20.10.x)- All IPv4 TCP connections fail immediately with "Network is unreachable"- IPv6 connections succeed normally- Issue affects all destinations regardless of VPN state (reproduced with and without Cloudflare WARP active)- Direct IPv4 connectivity to public IPs fails (Cloudflare, GitHub, etc.)

REPRODUCTION STEPS:

1. Update iPhone to iOS 26.4
2. Enable Personal Hotspot
3. Connect a Mac via Wi-Fi4. On the Mac, run: curl -v --max-time 10 --ipv4 https://github.com → Fails: "Network is unreachable"
5. Run: curl -v --max-time 10 --ipv6 https://github.com → Succeeds

ROUTING TABLE OBSERVATION (on tethered Mac with iOS 26.4):
- Default IPv4 route via en0 → 172.20.10.1 is present- IPv4 TCP connections to public IPs fail immediately without attempting TCP handshake- Same Mac on iOS 26.3 hotspot: IPv4 worked correctly

AFFECTED DEVICES:-
iPhone 17 Pro Max (iOS 26.4) - Tethered devices: MacBook Pro (macOS 26.3.1)NOTE: This regression was also observed by a colleague on the iOS 26.4 beta before public release. Issue appeared immediately after update, ruling out carrier or configuration changes as cause.

WORKAROUND:
None, tried a lot of things (Maximize compatibility, reboot, Reset Network settings, LTE only, etc)

REGRESSION:
Working on iOS 26.3, broken on iOS 26.4.

I have the same problem on 17 pro max (hotspot is broken). I have 2 other Iphones in the household on ios 26.3 and they are working. I just opened a support ticket with Apple and their first level and escalation support would like to reset the iphone to default. as per this thread, I don't think the reset would help here. please share the updates if you receive any. I will do the same.

No problems for me with my 16 Pro and iOS 26.4. Maybe its related to Apples modem?
But I have another issue since a while back (can't remember what iOS version) its only enabled for a while and shuts off even if I am connected with my PC. After this happens its the shortcut is greyed out and I have to go into settings to enable it again.

Add me to the list of affected users.
iPhone 17 Pro (not the Max) and hot spot worked perfectly fine on 26.3. Upgraded to 26.4 overnight and it won’t work. Tried everything I could think of and previous Internet suggestions and workarounds but nothing works.

MacBook Pro connects to wireless hotspot easily, but says there is no internet.

When tethered via USB, it works again, but not wirelessly.

Cell carrier is Rogers in Canada.

I believe it’s the carrier issue at this point. Trying to reach out to Rogers as well the last couple days.

Ipad with rogers / 26.4 / carrier version 69.0. Works great

Iphone 17 pro / 26.4 / carrier cersion 69.1. Nothing. Wont connect.

Did the network reset / toggle max compatibilty / turn off/on cell data / hard reset phone. No dice.

Might be rogers carrier version that updated re: that 5G(SA) rollout?

Keep you posted if I get anywhere with re-register hotspot with Rogers

Has anyone else been having similar modem or Personal Hotspot issues after updating to iOS 26.4?

I had two issues with my Rogers hotspot on an iPhone 17 Pro Max running iOS 26.4. I have a dual eSIM setup with Rogers and Bell eSIMs. Hotspot with Bell eSIM worked as expected, Rogers did not. The first issue I had with Rogers was no hotspot data at all, MacBook would connect, no data access. This issue was resolved by a system setting. With your MacBook tethered to your iPhone, open System Settings->Network and click the Details button next to your iPhone in the connection list. From the left of the resulting window, click TCP/IP and make sure Configure IPv6 is set to Automatically. After that you might need to disconnect the tether and re-establish.

Unfortunately the second issue I'm having has not been resolved and I have an open ticket with Rogers. I can no longer establish a VPN connection to any of the VPNs I have to work with and neither can my colleagues. I think this might have something to do with the IPv6. This was working correctly for me prior to the iOS 26.4 update, and works correctly on Bell without the changes to the IPv6 setting.

I hope this information helps someone.

Regards,

Josh

I am having similar issues. After update to 26.4 with Rogers Wireless (69.1) my hotspot is not permitting me to live stream video from an app Game Changer.

Game Changer is used for scoring and streaming baseball (and other sports) and I have been using it for 10+ years (video for 5/6+). Normally my set-up is:

iphone 17 - hotspot (rogers) to iphone 15 (no data plan), iphone 15 gets connected to the fence and then "go live" from there. I then usually sit close and and score the game from the main phone (iphone 17). Have been doing this with no issue since Dec/Jan (previous it was iPhone 15 as main phone/cell/hotspot to iphone 13 - I upgraded to the 17 in Dec). Was down in Phoenix and streamed 8+ games with no connection issue (some choppy video due to low service).

ISSUE: went Saturday to set up and go live and it kept saying "Cannot Connect to the Network". I tried multiple times. Then tried the iphone 17 on cellular, it worked fine. Hotspot to iphone 15 worked for all apps/mail/imessage and even Game Changer scoring, but not the go live. I gave up and borrowed another parents hotspot (diff provider and NOT and updated iphone) and it worked fine.

Spent the next 3 days doing ALL of the trouble shooting (delete app/re-install, update carrier settings etc etc). I called Rogers, they did network resets and couldn't find anything ... useless. Called apple, they did diagnostics on both devices and said they would not escalate due to it being a "network" issue ... ignoring the fact that the issue came up immediately AFTER the update. They refused to help in any way. I talked to the app developers and they were unable to replicate the issue and were looking into it and not finding anything .. so stumped also. I came across this Reddit thread:
This thread gave me a workaround ... not sure if it is a forever fix or just temporary. However, I changed my APN setting on my iPhone17 hotspot to mobile.apn (it was data.apn, my husbands ltedata.apn - his hotspot and phone was working totally fine - also NOT updated) and restarted my phone and boom, it started working. I tried a few times and each time, boom. I am set to stream a game today, so will see what happens.

I am frustrated that the ones being paid to tech support, cannot actually find the issues ... as I am sure you all are also!

Maybe this will help someone!

Apple Support is correct - it is a network issue. Given that the problem seems unique to Rogers customers, I'd guess the carrier bundle in 26.4 is broken somehow. There's nothing for them to escalate; this is on Rogers' side to fix.

There's also nothing the app developer can do here.

That was my point ...

Posted to give people assistance if they had something similar and the apn changed that helped me.

@Lhotell - that fixed it for me. No reply a second time from Roger’s support. Came back here for any update and see the swap the apn. Changed it. Restarted. Working great. You’d think Rogers would check these things right? Cheers for the fix until 69.2

Thanks! This did fix my wireless hotspot issue! Even the websites that weren't working properly while hardwire tethered are now functioning properly. I had tried several other ".apn" options, including the ones listed on Rogers' own website, but those didn't work. Tried "mobile.apn" and restarted and it worked! 🙂 Thank you.
