A) Excuse me sir, let me hand over my phone to you so you can help me take a picture of my family and I (while at it, please don't run away or drop it).

Wait a bit until you can pick out someone older with a larger more expensive camera kit than yours. The types who drop such things would no longer be carrying one.

Nice but no audio and poor video stablisation. If you don't care about those = wonderful, if you do...not good enough. Especially at THAT price.

I assume that since this only follows after learning your face, it wouldn't work for a motorcycle off-roading. I'd like to have one of these flying at 6-12 feet off the ground while I low speed dirt bike around in the woods.

It lacks avoidance of obstacles like DJI's and probably can't link to a motorcycle helmet (as opposed to a face) and the speed limit is fine for backroad stuff but certainly low compared to pricier models.
Stick a photo of your face on the back of your helmet.

Ok. That thing is way cool!

its also way annoying. I was at a store a couple of days ago and they were doing a demo and it is noisy AF. and a high pitched noisy at that. I'm sure it's some kind of required safety thing so you can't use it for spying on folks, like the required camera sound for not sneaking upskirts in Japan. Still it made my ears and my teeth hurt.

Maybe, just maybe, they want to take pictures of the places they've visited and make them a bit more personal by having themselves in the shot!

this is a valid point and when its a vacation etc I have no issue. but when its teenagers running around a mall talking selfies every 5 seconds, which I do see around LA, that's ridiculous

I'm very tolerant actually. But using a drone in a church for an ad/demo seems off to me. It's not like it was a documentary about the church. But then again - I'm not a big fan of the selfie generation and those that take them in places like the 9/11 memorial. I don't think that makes me pretty intolerant. Perhaps of a few things.
I just think you didn't word it very clearly, as I initially had a similar reaction. Saying you think it's not very respectful to fly in quiet places of reflection, prayer or mourning would probably be more clear. Especially when said drone could end up crashing into things, causing damage to buildings that are hundreds of years old with priceless stained glass, architecture and other works of art. In that sense, I very much agree with you that a church is not a place for drones unless they sign off on it for documentary footage and it's being piloted by a trained, professional drone videographer. Just like campus counseling centers were not a place for Pokemon Go last summer, and yet that was a problem I witnessed.

So? Who cares? How is it affecting you?

They're happy hanging out and want to share / save the memories, big deal.

Lots of thoughts. Too many to stream coherently, so here's a list.

1. Lots of neat possibilities, and so many new ways to annoy people.
2. I definitely see a new method of helicopter parenting...send it out back to follow your kids around while you watch them from home. Set up alerts if your kid gets attacked by a coyote.
3. There are a lot of cuts to different camera angles, making me wonder how good the tracking really is.
4. When the guy jumps off a cliff, what stops this thing from following him?
5. Would have been better with a wider angle lens
6. How loud is it? "Excuse me Uncle Morty, can you turn off your Hover Cam? my angel is reading from the Torah on his Bar Mitzvah and I can't hear over the buzzing!"
7. I predict that by the next super Bowl the NFL will be experimenting with these as they hover over the players.

Which options do you prefer

A) Excuse me sir, let me hand over my phone to you so you can help me take a picture of my family and I (while at it, please don't run away or drop it).

B) Let me whip out this hover cam so I don't need to go ask someone for help.

A. Definitely A, not even close. Been to popular tourist stuff all over the world and never once had or heard of an issue. I'm sure it happens, but just seems like there are much easier ways for a thief to relieve me of my valuables than doing it while my attention is purposely focused on the thing they want to steal.

And if you're worried about theft, I wouldn't advise carrying around a $500 gizmo that doesn't have a builtin GPS (find my phone) and ability to lock out use by the thief.

Now I could see a thief using one of these to distract me while they swipe something valuable....

Selfie hate is so pathetic by now. Ever thought they're taking the pictures for themselves or family / friends , and not for you?

Maybe, just maybe, they want to take pictures of the places they've visited and make them a bit more personal by having themselves in the shot!

Exactly what is wrong with that?

And hating on selfie hate has just jumped the shark. ;)

Just feels like there's something fundamentally wrong if we're spending $500 on a device so we can take better pictures of ourselves. I grew up with tripods and setting a timer or asking a stranger. But, yeah, $500 so you don't have to interact with scary strangers is probably a bargain for some.

And, yeah, please get your drone out of my face while I'm trying to take in the beauty of this incredible landmark/work of art/etc.

Nah, it hasn't.

I'm sure there are far worse things to spend money on. And this drone in particular seems to do more than just take selfies. From what I could tell on the video, it moves around with you, can film, etc.

What if you're somewhere with no people to take a picture of you? Or maybe you just don't want to bother anyone? Or you want to have more control over the pictures you take. There are plenty of reasons not to want to ask someone else to take a picture of you.

All true. I think the tech is cool, I really do. I wish the company the best and look forward to the price coming down.

Don't look forward to having 40 of them whizzing overhead at around popular tourist attractions, but progress!
