How about Pwnage Tool leaving traces?

    Hello!

I've got a legit iPhone 3G so far, haven't jailbroken it. I hear people saying that you only need to Pwn it once, and once it is Pwnd you can just load the stuff on it easier. Exactly what has changed?

I for one want to keep my warranty, so if there are traces left behind in the jail break process that's no really good, since jailbreaking could void the warranty.

Anyone know how it really is?

As far as I know, for a 3G iPhone, restoring in iTunes with Apple's firmware will put it back to factory fresh condition. It will then need re-Pwning if re-jailbreaking is required.

For an original model, the situation is a little more complex as the bootloader (if it's been altered) needs to be restored independently, using bootneuter, before using iTunes in order to leave no trace.

Okay... So using it on a 3G iPhone should be safe then. I want the original bootloader and such since I will always use it on the original carrier (better prices for fast data) :)

Yes. You'll only be jailbreaking (not unlocking) your phone. Choose the expert settings and uncheck "activate" in the general settings as you want to use your original SIM. Also, I'd uncheck "Installer" as it's beta software and some users who've installed it as well as Cydia have reported problems.

The very best source of information and tutorials that I've found is www.hackthatphone.com.

Although they won't have a tutorial up for Pwnage 2.02 yet, the procedure is very similar to 2.0 and 2.01.
