In the UK, I find BBC Weather is most accurate (uses data from the Met Office).

However, no app really predicts reliably beyond 24 hours. A few days before it may say rain all day, but you'd look in the morning and it says it'll be clear. I guess that's just the nature of weather prediction.

Agreed. I use the actual Met Office app, but really only take it as accurate the day before.

Yahoo

As they have teamed up with Yahoo!, I have found that it is very good with getting the weather correct as any weather forecast will.
I do also have the actual Yahoo! Weather! app, even though the weather info is the same, you can do more/get more out of the Yahoo! app. Up to 10 days forcast, sunrise/sunset with a nice little animation, wind speed with animation and you get some good pictures in the backround supplied by Flickr! (I know..right lol)
All in all, I enjoy the use of both apps...mixing it up :)

How accurate is the default weather app?

This maybe true for you but not all. Where ever Yahoo gets my local (current) weather has a problem of some sort. Like I mentioned 10-15 degrees higher then actual.

Right now it's WAY off. It's 63, sunny not a cloud in the sky and MAYBE a 1-2 mph on/off breeze.

Umm and where the hell is the temp? Isn't that what most people are looking for with weather. What a joke... :)

All I want is a way to change to accu weather or weatherbug or anything.

I use The Weather Channel to get the alerts and stuff. Quite useful In Tornado Alley ;). But the stock app seems to have today correct, but I've seen it be off by quite a bit. TWC isn't always right, but it does a decent job of predicting in unpredictable Kansas.

I'm going to have to recommend Dark Sky. It's a unique weather app in that it gives you weather information for your exact location, rather than general information about your city.

For example, it can fairly accurately predict that it's going to rain in 12 minutes, then stop raining five minutes after that.

It does this by using radar information and also returning data from the weather station absolutely closest to you (using GPS) instead of your geographical area.

Been using it for a few months now, couldn't be happier with it.

I'd like to mention the Weather Underground app. It has very detailed information, and lets you choose from many many weather stations like Weather Bug does.

I will say that I have a general distrust of the Weather Bug and Weather Channel apps, though not due to lack of accuracy. Back in the days of the desktop Weather Bug app, there were numerous articles around that compared it to spy ware. They were monitoring user's web browsing habits and selling the data to advertisers. There were also articles about The Weather Channel app in the New York Times about how they were selling location data to advertisers. Ever since these articles I have looked to alternative sources of weather data.

Yeah, I remember Weather Bug from those desktop days.

As for Weather Underground, definitely has been a good service and app. They have been bought by The Weather Channel probably a year or so ago.

There's also AccuWeather that often has good forecasting and details, although not for everyone still--seems like there's often not one service/app that works best for everyone.

Yahoo! basically gets their data from Weather Underground/The Weather Channel.

D'oh! Was not aware the Weather Underground had been purchased by Weather Channel. I guess it's time to uninstall their app. I tried the AccuWeather app when it first came out and didn't like it, but I see now that they've completely changed the interface. I'll have to give it another shot.
