Obviously this reporter would be much better of with Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 or something like this. Amoled screens with their high contrast and low reflecixivity screens are better for use under Sun. And Samsung already has an addition for Android that allows to run multiple applications on one screen at the same time. Besides, Tab 7.7 is twice lighter than iPad.

The article should have specified this on the title. People are allowed to skim though you know? It's not some read to the last word dictatorship here, and it's very logical for someone to wonder this because the iPad is indeed **** under sunlight, what with no oled or eink. If people want o tout the iPad for any use they should preample what accessory they need to make it workable. Because sunlight is not one of the pros of iPad, it's actually one of its great deficiencies where other products such as oled screens from Samsung or eink from others outshine it. Are we allowed to say this here are as in the poor screen qc and the yellow tinges of the new iPad, once we do, we ll get attacked?

If I say iPad used to write 1000 page novel, and within the article tucked away somewhere is ...with Bluetooth keyboard by so and so... It's not the readers error for skimming through, it's the writers error for misrepresenting the news.

So in this case it should have been how an iPad with an anti glare filter speeds reporting etc. etc. Because an iPad without it can't speed nothing, but it can delay everything, because it can't even be read.

If you are interested enough to comment on a story, you should be interested enough to read the article. Why didn't the first line of your post say "I didn't actually read this article." Sounds like your post was a misrepresentation.

----------

Shouldn't the title be be "How an iPad Speeds Up Reporting from NASCAR's Pit Row"? Or is that an American thing or something? Generally interested as the title makes little sense to me in its current state.

----------

Do you? If so, make sure Multitask Gestures is enabled in Settings > General and then swipe left or right with 4 or 5 fingers.

There is not anything wrong with the title. It is grammatically correct. So is your correction. What value would adding the word Up bring? It does not add clarity.

"Siri - Prepare a lap 100 race update for Danica Patrick and Greg Biffle."

Could happen some day, when Siri comes to iPad.

I am a licensed wordsmith. The title of the article is awkward. [...]

"Siri - check the grammar of this document in full dogmatic pedantry mode."

Could happen some day, when Siri comes to iPad.

I find myself researching in a window or three and editing in a window or two on the Mac all the time. When iOS got copy and paste that was a real major update. If iOS won't get windowing, maybe it will get tabs. That would be a value-add for productivity users.

4 or 5-finger swipe left or right to quickly switch apps, akin to Spaces on a Mac. Essentially, each "window" takes up the whole screen, you always have access to all of them.

4 or 5-finger swipe up to reveal the Multitasking bar. There's your tabs.

You can eliminate glare on an iPad in sunlight by wearing good quality polarized sunglasses.

Yeah-- don't understand the complaints. My only issue is you can only hold it in landscape with (my) polarized glasses. Just wish there was a way to adjust brightness when you can't see the screen... Or if the auto-adjust actually worked...

Let me take some notes.

The car is turning left.
The car is turning left.
The car is turning left.
The car is turning left.
The car is turning left.
The car is turning left.
The car is turning left.
The car is turning left.
The car is turning left.
The car is turning left.
The car is turning left.
The car is turning left.
...
Someone turned left best and won.

Oh come on. Be fair. They do go straight for a little bit too :p

ADMIN NOTE:

The meta-discussion about news on the site is a perfectly legit discussion, but technically off-topic to this particular story. In order to preserve the discussion, we've created a Site and Forum Feedback thread.

Quite a few posts have been moved there, and you're welcome to continue that discussion there. Those who want to discuss the use of an iPad in NASCAR's pit row can continue to post here.

Moving the posts was a complicated project. We've tried to keep the two discussions clear and separate, but if anyone feels his/her post ended up in the wrong place, feel free to let us know by PM and we'll take a look.

Carry on...:)

Since there are still some off-topic posts cropping up here, I'll repeat the note that was posted earlier.

Comments critical to the article or news in general on the site are perfectly ok (as long as they're posted within the Rules for Appropriate Debate), but they have to be in the feedback thread we've established.

Let's keep the news thread on-topic.

... I watched F1 on the weekend, was ok, no overtaking at Monaco as usual.
Then I stumbled across the Indy 500, looked amazing at the start, I think I got to about lap 8 out of 200 and gave up! Did it get better towards the end?

(Note for moderators - They had iPads here too... that was quite exciting.)

This story is all very interesting, but our Formula 1 anchor has been using an iPad since early 2009.

Yeah are they s***ing us? Does he have bionic eyes or something? No one can view **** on the iPad under sunlight...

It's too bad you have all the asterisks in your sentence, because everybody who ever tried to use the iPad in sunlight knows that you're absolutely right. The iPad is a completely useless toy when you want to use it outside.

Also, somebody should finally correct the "it just works" marketing slogan. Yes, Apple stuff "just works" - but only in Apple's very limited use case scenarios and even then only with other current Apple products. Their stuff is incompatible like hell with the non-Apple-world and it usually does not even work properly with their older products anymore.

Heck, Apple even managed to successfully break Windows File Sharing when they dumped Samba for SMBX in Lion. It works with a lot of bugs for Windows clients, but it took me two days to find a working solution for my Linux machine (and that solution was to use sshfs on Linux and enable "Remote Login" on Lion; not necessarily an everyday solution). Yeah, Apple products "just work". Sure.

Well using that logic, the title should also state whether it's 16, 32, or 64 gig, black or white, and which update it's running.

Because, obviously, you can't expect anyone to actually read the article:rolleyes:
