Also I find it funny how a lot of people can say "my Mac/PC has Core i7, it's much better than my old core 2 duo" but as soon as we touch tablets, same people will claim that specs don't matter.

It's not that they don't matter, it's that they are just one factor out of a number that matter.

Your example is a poor one. Comparing newer/older macs, faster CPU is going to give better performance since it's the same OS on both devices. But in the case of tablets you're comparing different OS, and a more efficient OS may make more difference in performance to the user than a faster CPU.

So if specs truly do not matter, why are people getting iPhone 4S? Original iPhone would be good for everything, following your logic. Oh, maybe you need to use Siri? What, only 4S (and iPhone 4 with hacking and very slowly) works fast enough for that? Must be that faster processor and more memory that device has.

Another POV : "Tablet sales: Android gains at iPads' expense"

What I appreciate about the Android tablet competition is that some real creativity shows up every now and then. Different form factors (Sony S and P). Different hardware feature sets (Sony and Vizio IR emitters, HTC Flyer's Scribe digitizer for example). If the iPhone had no competition, then we would all be using 3.5" screen iOS phones and nothing better. At least with Android phones you can have any size you want up to 5" or slightly more.

On another front I finally got my HP Touchpad, and with the latest update it'll sync with my phone and actually allow answering and placing calls from it's 9.7" $149 WebOS inductive-charging glory. Much the same as I could do with the now-ancient Samsung T10, P2 and P3 MP3 players. Kind of fun answering calls without having to put the tablet down. Apparently HP is looking at Android and Win8 OSes for it too.
