its the disrespect towards their customers, and complete lack of value for our time.

The original Ipad launch was perfect. You placed your order online 4 weeks in advance, and when you stood in line you know you were going to pick up a product that day. Not stand in line for 2 hours, just to be told sorry were sold out. No we have no voucher for you, no we don't have any idea when were getting stock.

So you place your order for iPad 1 four weeks in advance, and you're complaining that placing an order today will get you the iPad 2 in three weeks?

I'm failing to see why this is such an issue. If you didn't know they would sell out and decided to wait in line in hopes you would get one, I have a an ocean view property to sell to you in Arizona.

I got to the Apple store at 2:00 and waited till 5:30 before I found out they ran out of all At&t models. All they had was Verizon. Ran over to the Best Buy near by and waited in line for 2 more hours. I got the very last ticket/iPad 2 :) 64 gig 3g white. I'm a happy man today.

Too bad the events in Japan are dominating the news cycle. Only us nerds on the forums even are aware of what is going on. The average person has little idea that iPad 2 is out let along the lines and shipping delays.

So while Apple could not have predicted this, their typical BS tactics did nothing but enrage another set of loyalists.

Sent from my iPad 2

Woah...hold on here. This is a Mac forum, so we are going to talk about iPads, Apple, and bitch about our experiences in regards to the launch. That's fine.

But it is just wrong for you to say that the Japan devastation is killing your ranting and complaining about not getting an iPad on launch day. Did people in Japan ask for this natural diaster? We are so lucky to have our health, home, and gadgets such as an iPad or whatever else you have.

why are you hustling to reach 100 posts?

You clearly cannot read a thread. Who said people here could not talk about iPads. I was responding to the comment about Apple wanting lines for publicity and I said that they are getting much less due to events in Japan. So CNN has decided to not film people on line at an Apple store and instead chose to air reports from Asia.

well said. very well said.

and as well they should. media outlets are not supposed provide free advertising. but they do.

now that i understand better what you meant, i take back my last.

/can't read a thread, either.

One day when the competition is bringing the heat, I will keep in mind that to apple, I'm just another buck.

I hate to break it to you, but you're definitely just another buck to Motorola or Samsung as well. I'm not saying this launch was flawless, but any other manufacturer would be just as willing to screw you over to boost sales.

Last time preorders were up a month before the launch, this time it was announced 9 days prior. People would be even more upset if they had done preorders and sold out of preorders in an hour or two - which it looks like would have happened based on the stock levels and projected online shipping delays. Either way people get disappointed - but it definitely would have saved the headache of waiting in line.

Whine all you want. I walked into best buy at 4:45 and walked out in 25 min with the model I wanted. A wide distribution model is better for the consumer and Apple. The cost to Apple for pre orders that all have to arrive on a launch day is ridiculously higher then spreading distribution to a good number of partners and more options always is better for the consumer.

OK, I see your point. My bad.

The air is very nice. I have the 13 and love it.

At the end of the day, my heart isn't broken or anything, but I won't be calling everyday for the next month hoping I catch them right after a shipment. One day when the competition is bringing the heat, I will keep in mind that to apple, I'm just another buck.

You're just "another buck" to any gadget company. What do you people want? Steve Jobs to come over with a shiny new iPad 2, make you dinner, give you a massage, and finish it off with a happy ending?

This is business. You all could have set your alarms for 1 am PT, and ordered online. It only took me 3 minutes and I was back to sleep. If you wanted the product that bad, there were ways to get it. It wasn't impossible. With any popular, well reviewed, well made gadget, there are going to be sold out stores. No one is stopping you guys from going and picking up a Motorola Xoom. I'm sure they have plenty of those paper weights.

I tried waiting in line once for the iPhone 4 and it was a horrible experience....BUT at least I had one reserved! I knew there was a phone waiting for me when I got in. I had to work today so no getting in line early. I couldn't get up at 4 in the morning. I think that is a crazy time to start online sales if by the time most reasonable people wake up, your already waiting weeks for shipping. I have a young child, I sleep at 4 am if he doesn't wake me up. :D

I don't mind apple getting attention and media, but why harvest your customers for it?!?! I'm your customer and should be treated with all due respect. I at least thought if they wouldn't do preorders it's due to their confidence in having plenty of stock. So WTF happened? There were no vouchers in my line when they ran out.

You should have learned your lesson from iPhone story and just ordered online. Go back to working for your money and taking care of your kids and they will send you one for no extra money. Duh.

I think Apple dropped the ball BIG TIME on this launch. There's no rhyme or reason behind any of it. Some 3rd party stores have 50 units others have none. Only way to know for sure is to get in yuor car and physically check at each and every store. 5PM selling time WTF? Ordering online starts at 1am but buyers won't see the unit delivered for 3-5 biz days at BEST. It's comical. Sure peeps are talking about Apple, but in a BAD way. Ipad2 Launch = un-winning.

The lack of pre-orders and the decision to divert random quantities to third-party resellers was a mistake. Those should have been dedicated to Apple Store sales only. Apple makes the most money selling through its own channels, and that's where most of its customers want to buy its products (whether online or via the retail stores) on day one.

The iPad 2 is not even a new product category. I would equate this launch to the screwed up launch of the iPhone 3G (no online pre-order, no early upgrades for original iPhone owners, had to wait for an AT&T or Apple Store Rep. to open your box and activate your new phone through iTunes, etc).

Apple was clearly trying to avoid a repeat of the Verizon iPhone and corresponding chatter from analysts over the lack of lines (even though first week sales were likely high).

Here in Nashville, the local best buy got over 100 ipads. I got the 5th out of 20 black wifi 16gb. Had to wait about an hour 3:30-4:30 before they gave out tickets

Of course, but apple operates under the guise of caring about me. So in exchange, I have been willing to let certain limitations go, such as lack of flash or ****** cameras. They treated me with respect in the past so I have stayed loyal in many regards and referred family and friends.

You think if samsung released a tablet with 512 mb of ram and ****** cameras people would gloss over them like they do apples iPad 2? Hell no! I know I definitely hold apple to lower standards than their competitors, but again, that's because of great customer service. If I know I am just a buck to apple, the way I am to samsung, than I will definitely treat apple the same way I treat other companies. :) Thats the mistake apple makes.

Uh, Samsung released a tablet with an OS version that the OS maker specifically said was not for tablets. That seems a lot worse than some perceived problems with the iPad 2 from spec-wankers.

Now if you waited until 4:15-4:30 to get to an Apple store...

As opposed to say... working a job...

The iPhone 4 pre-order system was so much better. At least that way you knew you were getting one once you were in the line.

Stop being such a drama queen. So you didn't get an iPad2 today. You will get one shortly. I don't see how Apple treated you with disrespected other than not fulfilling your entitlement.

If you don't want to spend anymore money at Apple, by all means, go order a Xoom. See how far you get with Android customer service.

You think so?How do you know? Wait do you double promise????? Omg! I can't wait!!!!

The thread isn't a debate about which tablet is the best. I'm on macrumors in the iPad section, not a xoom forum or whatever place you talk about other devices. The discussion at hand is how poor apple conducted this launch. Go look at the other threads full of disappointed people and tell them what you told me. People shouldn't have to drive/call 5 places to find an iPad 2 or wait in line for hours to be turned away. It's by far the worst launch in apple history.

I think this is funny. You're on an apple forum complaining about people who are complaining about not getting their ipad.

If you're in the iPad forum and you didn't get an ipad2 today you're probably not happy about that. That's expected.

But going around in an iPad forum and saying "you're a drama queen" etc. is just being a troll.
