I've had my 2016 13" MacBook Pro since November of 2016 and it has held up pretty well but there is some minor cosmetic damage around the edges. Btw, I don't use a case or cover. The damage stands out more than if I had the silver version but I am still glad I went with the space grey and it is hard to notice the damage unless you look closely. I've also attached a couple pictures below.

I bought my 13" model in November and it still looks like new. No issues at all.How has the anodization been holding up? Any regrets not going with silver?
Yeah, those are dings and nicks that could have been avoided with better care of your computer. Those are not the fault of the computer or its build quality or anything Apple-related. Those are all on you, buddy.
Yeah, those are not Apples fault, but comparing this and the silver edition with the same usage, you'll still see the silver one hold up better due to the color.Yeah, those are dings and nicks that could have been avoided with better care of your computer. what about the ports?Darker colours (And gloss) will always show scratches more easily, due to reflections making colour differences more noticeable.
So if scratches are something you worry about, then the lighter the colour the less these will show. Having said that, this is anodised aluminium and not a dark paint over the case; so it goes pretty deep.
My 10 month old is still good as new, I was only really concerned with the ports area as I tend to slide cables around until the find the hole... But just checked, surprisingly no scratches in these areas. I don't wear a watch either which would likely scratch the palm rest area. No case, just a protective sleeve for when it goes in the bag. So I'd say it's fine, get whichever colour you like, not which one you think will look best in 2-3 years time. You've still got to live with it for 2-3 years after all.
what about the ports?
As I said, ports are absolutely fine. It's aluminium so it will scratch as it's a 'soft' metal, but you still need something harder than it to scratch it. So if you go at it with a blunted piece of steel then it'll likely scratch, but general use the ports are the only areas I can imagine getting some wear. However as I said, mine are absolutely as new.
I'll add that I really don't care if the computer gets a few dings or dents here and there, I won't deliberately mistreat it, but I won't baby it either. It's part of the computer like my own scars... So basically, I don't do anything above and beyond putting it in a sleeve to protect it, and it's absolutely fine.
Agree with everything except that I will always call it aluminum... life is wear and tear after all, and while I also won't mistreat it, it is going to see a lot of use throughout its life (though I won't throw it in a bag with a Motorola Xoom like I did with my 2011 and got it all marked up by that thing, ugh).
Do you not get funny looks calling it Aluminum in the UK? I'm giving it a funny look now , it's got a red squiggly line under it and everything.
I do - however I give them right back! I have started adding "u" and "s" into the writing for the most part and it can be difficult texting American friends and family, but I ain't spellin' it that way! Also I change my systems to use the US English and such so it's not noted as being spelled wrong for me.
Why aren't you spelling it that way? It's the correct way (There is no one better way, just the way USA spells it and everyone else...)! There's English and American, different languages. Assuming you go/went to school in the UK and especially at higher education level, you'll/you'd be slapped for using American English - or even working in any profession that requires you to write stuff!
Off-topic but was just purely curious why a Brit would deliberately choose to spell things wrong
Haha, it is off-topic, but so it goes! The answer to your question is that I'm American, and I work in the UK - which is what necessitates my British spelling in my work capacity, but not in my own time...
