My silver mid-2010 looks brand new, but I'm getting antsy for a new one, probably at the next update. Probably want to go with space gray.

How has the anodization been holding up? Any regrets not going with silver?

I was (am) mildly concerned about this, but my 2017 15” looks fine so far. Although that is only since June...
[doublepost=1503791624][/doublepost]Full disclosure... I have a dbrand skin on it, but the edges/ keyboard deck are fine.

I've had my 2016 13" MacBook Pro since November of 2016 and it has held up pretty well but there is some minor cosmetic damage around the edges. Btw, I don't use a case or cover. The damage stands out more than if I had the silver version but I am still glad I went with the space grey and it is hard to notice the damage unless you look closely. I've also attached a couple pictures below.

Yeah, those are dings and nicks that could have been avoided with better care of your computer. Those are not the fault of the computer or its build quality or anything Apple-related. Those are all on you, buddy.

Darker colours (And gloss) will always show scratches more easily, due to reflections making colour differences more noticeable.

So if scratches are something you worry about, then the lighter the colour the less these will show. Having said that, this is anodised aluminium and not a dark paint over the case; so it goes pretty deep.

My 10 month old is still good as new, I was only really concerned with the ports area as I tend to slide cables around until the find the hole... But just checked, surprisingly no scratches in these areas. I don't wear a watch either which would likely scratch the palm rest area. No case, just a protective sleeve for when it goes in the bag. So I'd say it's fine, get whichever colour you like, not which one you think will look best in 2-3 years time. You've still got to live with it for 2-3 years after all.

perefect bu the tiny ass usb c ports are showing wear. since apple didn't put. a guard or plastic around them on the inside like they use to

Yeah, those are not Apples fault, but comparing this and the silver edition with the same usage, you'll still see the silver one hold up better due to the color.
The space grey is not a problem, but the silver holds up better over time, but not a deal breaker by any means, I would say.

mine is from april, and still holding up without a scratch - But I also use the sleeve all the time.

Both 2016 13" and 2017 15" are just fine - no signs of usage. I only use an Incase sleeve to protect it during travel. Space grey is showing fingerprints more than classic silver though. But I think space grey models will have more resale value (maybe?) and it is a new colour which I like a lot. No wonder Apple is not going for deep black (Razer is even worse with fingerprints).

what about the ports?

what about the ports?

As I said, ports are absolutely fine. It's aluminium so it will scratch as it's a 'soft' metal, but you still need something harder than it to scratch it. So if you go at it with a blunted piece of steel then it'll likely scratch, but general use the ports are the only areas I can imagine getting some wear. However as I said, mine are absolutely as new.

I'll add that I really don't care if the computer gets a few dings or dents here and there, I won't deliberately mistreat it, but I won't baby it either. It's part of the computer like my own scars... So basically, I don't do anything above and beyond putting it in a sleeve to protect it, and it's absolutely fine.

Agree with everything except that I will always call it aluminum... life is wear and tear after all, and while I also won't mistreat it, it is going to see a lot of use throughout its life (though I won't throw it in a bag with a Motorola Xoom like I did with my 2011 and got it all marked up by that thing, ugh).

Do you not get funny looks calling it Aluminum in the UK? I'm giving it a funny look now , it's got a red squiggly line under it and everything.

I do - however I give them right back! I have started adding "u" and "s" into the writing for the most part and it can be difficult texting American friends and family, but I ain't spellin' it that way! Also I change my systems to use the US English and such so it's not noted as being spelled wrong for me.

Why aren't you spelling it that way? It's the correct way (There is no one better way, just the way USA spells it and everyone else...)! There's English and American, different languages. Assuming you go/went to school in the UK and especially at higher education level, you'll/you'd be slapped for using American English - or even working in any profession that requires you to write stuff!

Off-topic but was just purely curious why a Brit would deliberately choose to spell things wrong :p

Haha, it is off-topic, but so it goes! The answer to your question is that I'm American, and I work in the UK - which is what necessitates my British spelling in my work capacity, but not in my own time...

Then that's fine, I was worried there was some blighted British chap so overcome with an affection for American culture they decided to denounce their heritage in favour of Americanisms. It were bad :(.

Whilst you're in Blighty and refusing to correctly call a spade a spade, might I remind you to please under no circumstance refer to your 'Fanny pack' either... Enjoy the weather!
