With the old method, yes this would work.. you could get that new phone on contract on another line and switch the iPhone 6 to the unlimited line; however, as for how I interpret Verizon's new policy (as stated above), any lines that you activate data on, you must keep the data plan.

I'm eager to see how this plays out.

I plan to order the phone from Apple with my subsidized upgrade price on the account with unlimited data. Receive the phone and immediately throw up/cut the sim that comes with it and insert the sim in my 5S. What do I need to tell Verizon to do since I guess I have to acknowledge that I'm moving to a 2GB plan. (Not really though because I'm not activating the new sim).

I still have my Verizon unlimited data plan grandfathered in when I purchased iPhone 5 at full price.

I know I could just buy one at full price and keep the same plan, but I also have my upgrade available on my line and one other line.

I could just buy phone at contract discounted price and activate it then deactivate and then activate on my line pretend that I bought a phone from someone else. I don't know if this method still works or not.

So, how do you plan to keep your Verizon unlimited data plan?

You have to buy it at full retail in order to keep unlimited or use get an off contract phone somehow. I am waiting to see how badly i get throttled in October before i hit the buy button. I dont want to pay $800 for a phone and i am only going to get 3mbps.

I have just read about this Best Buy Method, not sure if this will work though since Verizon works just as hard to prevent these things as people do to look for loopholes. Will save me a ton of money though.

My upgrade eligible line is currently on 2GB plan. So I guess I could just upgrade the phone and activate and deactivate as long as I keep this contract line with data for another 2 years.

If you review the link provided, reference is made to VZW is updating their point of sales systems with the necessary information to enforce this. They seem to be saying you can't even buy the phone unless the upgrade line has a data plan.

Caveat emptor, when assuming you get a phone and cut up the SIM and be in the clear.

All you have to do is buy the upgrade-priced phone of somebody else's line. By doing that, and then activating it on your line, you are essentially telling the system that you got the phone on your own dime, as if it was a second hand phone. All you need NOT do is to use your upgrade on your line. Swap upgrades with someone else--as long as the phone is purchased tied to another line that is not yours you keep your unlimited data.

Can I do that on your line? I don't know how many takers there would be for this. Seems like a lose-win proposition.

Since the Best Buy method relies on using your old sim, I'm assuming it is not possible for those trying to transfer unlimited data from iPhone 4 to iphone 6. Is there a method that still works today for keeping unlimited data for those with an iPhone 4 that does not have a sim tray?

I've had a Verizon unlimited data plan since my first smartphone purchased years ago. I've taken advantage of the upgrade every 2 years with no change to my plan. This year I'm paying full price for the 6 because I'm not eligible for an upgrade until April 2015. I was told by Verizon that I will continue to be eligible for an upgrade on or after April 2015 and I plan to use that for the iPhone 6S. I also was concerned when I had to choose a data plan when ordering online and called Verizon. Was told that I had to complete that information to order the phone, but to call customer service after I receive the phone and it would be changed back to my original plan. Hope that works, but I don't use much data so it won't be a problem if it doesn't.

previously posted - but thought a duplicate wouldn't hurt...

I have 5 iPhones - all ULD and 5 dumb phones on my account with Upgrades are everywhere across the account...

I want to get one iPhone 6 to replace one iphone5 while retaining my ULD.

Here is what I think will work.
1. Buy the iPhone 6 on an existing iPhone unlimited line - yes, i'll loose ULD there - but i will choose a low data consumption iPhone for the purchase.

2. Once it arrives, activate it, then re-activate the old iPhone to that line.

3. Then put my iphone 5 sim (or a new sim) into the new iphone 6 and activate it on my ULD line.

So, the iPhone line which was used for the upgrade looses their ULD - but should not matter as they are low data consumers - and i retain my ULD with an iphone 6.

In this scenario, I don't have to worry about the data charges being applied to a dumb phone line due to the new rules/loophole closure

Any thoughts???

I upgraded with the Edge plan and they let me keep my unlimited data. I'm thinking it was more of a glitch in their system but who am I to complain? #

Not a glitch but don't you end up paying more this way?

I wouldn't do it. I would wait until if and when it's able to be shipped via bb or the like.

Will this Work

I have an iPhone 5 with an UDP, also on same account have and iPhone 4 with 2gb with an upgrade.

Can I use the upgrade on the the iPhone 4, when the phone comes activate it, then log into my Verizon account and switch it over to the UDP line and not lose the unlimited?

Or when the phone comes instead of activating on the 2gb of data line, just activate it on the iPhone 5 line? Will this cause me to lose the UDP? I know that the other line will always have the 2gb and I am ok with that.

Don't tell Verizon nothin lol. You shouldn't have to tell them anything. Just activate your phone with your old SIM just make damn sure not to activate the new sim.
