Hey could you explain this? Clean it out? Are the default settings in BTT not good? What are you changing it with? thx
Over all, BTT settings are fine. I mostly mean removing all the gestures I don't use / are for apps I don't have anymore. One setting I do change though is the sensitivity of the rotate gesture. I use that to raise/lower the volume and it feels sluggish as hell if I don't change "Rotate block time" to ~0.035 and "Set needed rotation amount" to 15.

In case you want to know, the gestures I use right now are:
Rotate left/right => volume down/up
3 finger swipe left => Cmd+W (close window / tab)
3 finger swipe right => Cmd+N (new window.)
3 finger tap => Middle Click

In Safari:
3 finger swipe right => Cmd+T (new tab, replaces new window gesture.)
3 finger swipe up => Cmd+Shift+H (Home page)
2 finger TipTap left => Shift+Ctrl+Tab (move to the tab to the left)
2 finger TipTap right => Ctrl+Tab (move to the tab to the right)

Keyboard shortcut:
Cmd+Opt+, => Launch System Preferences. (Goes well with app preferences being Cmd+,)

And then of course I have to switch all the space changing gestures to 4 finger swipes since 3 finger swipes are used for other things. The reason BTT is at the top of my list is because this is how I've always used my Mac. (got it in 09) If my OS doesn't work like this things feel so... Windows-ish. (I have to click the red X to close windows AND tabs? All the time?)

I'm hoping BTT gets updated for ML to take advantage of those new swipe from the side gestures Apple uses for notification center. That might be just what media controls were asking for.

Lion updates
Chrome Canary
iTerm2
XQuartz
XCode + CLI tools
TeXLive
MacPorts (possibly brew ... )
svn and git
vim 7.3
SciPy, NumPy, Matplotlib
VirtualBox with a few older VMs I have lying around

Gimp
Inkscape
Skim
Bibdesk

Papers
LibreOffice
TrueCrypt
1Password
Cocktail

Oh, and Machinarium.

Thanks for the tip. I am going to install this now. I too hope the apps I use will work in the new ML. I remember I some apps not working when I switch from SL to Lion.

Indeed it is! A long time since i bought it, but then it was free :)

Shame it's no longer free! I coughed up the two bucks for it and it's well worth it. The snap feature was one of the things I liked (and missed in OS X) about Windows 7.

it's still free in BetterTouchTool ;-)
BetterSnapTool is just easier to use, has more "snapping features" and needs less resources (because it doesn't include all the gesture stuff)

Wow, you're absolutely right!

Does BTT use more resources even if I only have the snap feature enabled? Not sure if it's just placebo but it seems to be a bit less glitchy than BST.

BTT will always use a little bit more CPU than BetterSnapTool, not that much though ;-)

BTT & BST share a lot of code (so I hope it's just placebo), but if you encounter any glitches in BST drop me a mail at bettersnaptool@boastr.net :)

Oh okay, so you're the developer of the app? That's pretty cool :D

The glitch I'm referring to is seen here (skip to 1:12)- the window judders when I full-screen it. It only seemed to happen in QuickTime, but I am not seeing this issue any more with BTT.

An UPDATE: I uninstalled SizeUP and tried BetterTouchTools. You are right, it is much better and there are way more functionality then I would every use. However the screen snapping features is what I really like about it. I also like the option to backup the settings. I have no made one in my Dropbox folder. Thanks!

@TheMacBookPro :) ah I see. I think that's a unwanted side effect of a bugfix that was necessary for some other apps. (and is not yet active in BTT)
I'll add an extra rule for quicktime to prevent this in the next version ;-)

I just checked AppStore. $1.99. MIght give it a go. Would like to try it before purchase but it looks like it is the same less the gesture settings. I like the idea of less resources because the snapping features is what I use anyway. Does it have backup function?

there is a trial available on my blog (just fixed the link) http://blog.boastr.net

Unfortunately there is no built in backup functionality in BST but it saves all it's information in two locations (~/Library/Application Support/BetterSnapTool and ~/Library/Preferences/com.hegenberg.BetterSnapTool.plist ) so it's still easy to backup.

Ah, I see. So will I be seeing other bugs now since the bugfix isn't in BTT? :p

Thanks a lot for clearing that up btw.

Thanks. I will try it out. I have a $100 gift card waiting to be used!

@TheMacBookPro probably not because those other bugs only appear on very specific system configurations ;-) But BTT will also be updated soon to include a fix for this, so don't worry.

I see- thanks a lot for getting back to me!

I really wish I had discovered GeekTool after my final. I had fun messing with it yesterday (when I should've been studying).
