NJRonbo, I assume a fellow New Jerseyite. Many people have posted great feedback, and you made a wise decision. It is like our little club secret how well the Macbook performs. Before you get it, you read the reviewers' websites that use Geekbench and compare it's performance to this and that, and the initial thought is that it is WAY too underpowered to perform the day to day tasks we need a computer to do.

I had the late model rMBP with the highest specs, i7, 512GB SSD, 16GB RAM and hit a financial speed bump in December. I had decided to sell the MBP and go to the mid range Macbook on sale at Best Buy around Black Friday to free up cash. I figured I would use it until the new 2016 Macbook Pros would be released, and when I had the cash again I would upgrade.

Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I found it gave me what I needed for everything I needed it for. When the 2016 models came out, I upgraded to the 1.7GHz version and sold the 2015 without even seeing the new Macbook Pros, and I plan to have this for a few years. Between my 9.7" iPad Pro and this, I am good to go.

I'm really happy with mine, personally. It has done everything I've thrown at it and it's really a wonderfully designed device. The keyboard hasn't bothered me a bit, the screen is wonderful, and it's just unbelievably portable. I owned an 11-inch MBA in the past and it's noticeably more portable and easier to carry. The hardware is just impressive. My favorite part is the lack of a fan. No noise and it barely heats up.

If you're asking yourself if you want an MB or not, I really think it comes down to your needs. If you're a casual user, or a less-computer literate user, I think the rMB is perfect. The combo of portability and battery life should trump other options. However if you use your computer for many hours a day, I think the MBP is the better option. At the end of the day, a 12 inch screen can only get you so far before you sort of get tired of looking at it. I'm 6 foot tall and my neck gets tired if I use it for an extended time at a desk. That doesn't happen with my 15'' MBP. All personal preference at the end of the day; I've been pleasantly surprised at what the rMB has been able to handle.
