this... do an encrypted back up so everylittle damn thing is restored.I'll be using an iTunes encrypted backup to restore. All should go smoothly, and if it doesn't then at least I will know sooner because iCloud takes much longer.

oh i didn't know that! will do the icloud way then lolNot necessarily. Health/activity data (such as acquired from wearing the Apple Watch) will be preserved only when you perform an encrypted backup in iTunes (you check the box to enable encrypted backup in iTunes when you back up your old iPhone). iCloud backup is already encrypted. Encrypted backup also preserves wifi passwords so you don't have to enter them again.
Thanks. Also.....how do you restore from iTunes with a new phone? Do you go through the screens until you get to the Restore page? Or do you just plug the phone in on that Hello screen?

so doing an itunes encrypted back up is the same as an icloud backup?
I don't think it matters. Either way should work.
Yes, iCloud backups are encrypted by default.
Thanks. But even though iCloud backups are encrypted.....they don't save Mail passwords like an iTunes encrypted backup does as I understand it. I've only ever done iCloud restores....and it never saves any passwords.

there is no risk in using itunes to backup and restore if you are normally an icloud user, right? I know that one time i heard you need to stick to one or the other.

That is factually false. Too many members are perpetrating this FUD. The vast majority of iDevices perform just fine when restoring from a backup. It becomes an issue only if the backup becomes corrupted and this can happen anytime, not just after a major iOS update.

Hmm - if true, isn't that going to bite a fair few Apple Watch users? (Does this also affect health/activity data on iPhones currently, not just the watch?)
