After a couple months of ownership of the new MacBook, a few of my keys are showing wear. Won't be long before they start showing more obviously.
Are you experiencing the same?

This happens with every computer. Get used to it.

I have a 2009 macbook unibody, white with white keys.

No shiny keys, all letters still crisp and readable.

But bought a case for my mac and it came with free keyboard cover.

my keyboard is only bit dirty but it is white so kinda expect it get dirty.

I use an Uppercase keyboard cover that I got from Amazon. The Moshi one was fine but the Uppercase one is just as good and a whole lot cheaper - especially considering you'll want to replace the cover every once in a while.

Anyway, I love the keyboard cover -- it keeps crap out of the keys and it keeps the keyboard from getting shiny or chipped.

Anyone who makes the argument that the keyboard protector is superior to a bare keyboard is just fooling themselves. Not hating on keyboard protectors at all-- to each their own-- but to argue that it's superior to type on rubber versus an actual key is just silly.

I can't imagine using a keyboard protector with my rMB given how little travel it already has. You need some feedback (or at least I do). Having used keyboard protectors in the past, I will never use one again. I just use iKlear to clean my computer often and feel this is a superior solution. It takes care of shiny keys, etc. I also never eat around my rMB, which I feel extends the life of the keyboard.

^^
I agree - using a keyboard protector definitely gives something up to typing on a "bare" keyboard. But the good TPU keyboard covers are nowhere near as bad as the silicone ones.

Regardless of how often you clean your keys, they will eventually get shiny. It's not just the oil in your fingers that makes the keyboard shiny; repeated typing essentially "polishes" the keys making them a little glossy.

In any event, the TPU keyboard covers aren't much of a compromise at all, even with a short-travel keyboard. For $12 or so it's worth giving one a try if you've never used one before.

I usually clean the keyboard with a slightly damp microfiber cloth (water only), dry up any leftover moisture, and leave it open for a while before putting away...

Try High Strength Isopropyl alcohol. Water isn't that great at taking off finger oil, I thought I had the same issue until I tried the alc. Just remember to be careful with it - you don't want it getting on your screen, let it vaporize off completely before shutting the lid.

All my keyboards at work and on my macs are holding up pretty well. My secret? I wash my hands very often and clean my keyboards every day with micro-cloth and a dash of alcohol. Usually, I will wash my hands (with soap) prior to start working on my MacBook. And I never eat nowhere near my computers. I can't stand people who e.g. smoke outside, then go to straight to a restroom, forget to wash their hands after using the restroom, and are constantly eating something in the office while working. That's ugh... disgusting. Their keyboards look like a sewer pit.
