I got yelled at and treated like **** during training. None of these complaints lay a finger on what I had to go through when I took on my first "job" out of college :p

sounds like tales from the crypt for me. i have about two months left to look for a job before student loans come in. i've spent the past few months clearing my head after a hectic college life, but got my biology degree, and the lab is pretty much out. and to add to that, where i live is pretty much a dead end town for work.

so i'll keep looking and hope to check back in soon.

there are worse things than miliary training in this world, trust me.

My first job after graduating lasted 16 years. I learned so much there, I cannot describe it without writing a small novel. It is one of those rare companies that hire people, not credentials. For many, they come and never leave. Our senior mechanical engineer was there for 49 years. Our purchasing manager was there for 38. Our QC manager is in his 37th year, and has a couple years left.

I was a medical courier. I basically drove around town collecting blood/urine samples, disembodied prostates, mastectomies, etc, in (clear) plastic baggies. In my own car, which was black and had no AC, during heat waves of 105 degrees and sub-zero freezes, in which I was expected to also carry cases of cheap champagne across glass-slippery parking lots to doctors in various medical complexes. Christmas, you know.

To make things worse, one of my co-workers was decapitated in a traffic accident. We all kind of shrugged and said, "Hey, could've been us. Well, off to work."

All this for minimum wage!

i left college after 2 1/2 years and took a semester off and worked in a law enforcement related job which was in some ways, the most exciting job ever

perks were good (and the best i have ever seen to this day) and for a young person they had great bragging rights, but secrecy was key so i could never tell friends about it or bring them by "the office"

he he...i do like to watch 24 and The Unit, and compare and contrast the aspects of the job and the secrecy that is needed and how that may affect relationships

when i actually finished college, i worked at a couple of motels in a tourist town for 8 months covering slow shifts and after that, i worked for uncle sam paper pushing and both jobs were incredibly boring

now that i am older, i don't have any expectation to have an interesting job and realize that it is only a way to pay bills

so two things i learned in almost 30 years in the working world

1) your job is a way to pay bills...it's not your hobby, spouse, or religion
2) keep your actual interests/people in life for enrichment and never mix them with work

following those two rules has kept the quality of my life high

i knew a couple of ex-rock stars and a very successful clothing designer who have high public profiles and they both found things outside of their work to seek enjoyment in their lives...as much as their job seemed exciting, it was interesting to hear the "real life" scenes behind their jobs which actually made their work sound like ordinary work...and lots of running around and catching up with tedious details and very little of their jobs entailed the "red carpet" one dreams about strolling in front of the media

I have been out of university for almost a year now and I have been working in an IT Consultancy role for all of that time. It's a pretty cool job to have. I get a lot of independence and responsibility and I feel like a proper member of staff. My knowledge and opinions is really valued (both by people in the office and by my clients). I do have some pretty big name clients and I get to charge them stupid amounts of money for my opinion, which is quite satisfying. Unfortunately I don't get to keep any of that money lol
