How best to backup/restore my phone?

I used 128GB iPhone 7 which was pretty much full with photos, and moving to the x now with 256GB I am trying to figure the best way to backup and restore. I can't use iTunes since my computer drive has only 20GB left, so I guess my only option is iCloud. Do I just get extra storage for monthly fee and back it up? or are there any other suggestions? thanks
 
My wife was in the same boat. We bought the 200GB iCloud storage and after moving to the new phone will either cancel it or downgrade to 50GB.
