I want to access some files on my old PowerBook G4, but the display is broken.

I was thinking of using an adapter to get it hooked up to a 1080p tv or projector, but I’m not sure what adaptor I should use?

You can remove the hard drive from the G4 machine and mount it in an external case or dock.

There should be a VGA or DVI output on there somewhere. Can you not hook it up that way and turn it into a "desktop"?

You can
  • use Target Disk Mode and hook up the PowerBook to another Mac via FireWire (and only FireWire!).
  • remove the hard drive, put it in an USB-to-2.5”-IDE enclosure and hook up the enclosure to another Mac.
  • hook up the PowerBook to an external monitor/TV. If the monitor/TV doesn’t have DVI, you need a cheap passive DVI-to-HDMI or DVI-to-VGA adapter.
