iPad How can I bring back the date in the notification shade?

That extra swipe might be the thing that pushes me to android, any way to make it so pulling down the notification shade will tell me the date and day? My apps all have badges for alerts so the date is all I use the notification area for.

iPad Air 2 iOS 10.1

On my iPad I have iCal in the "dock" at the bottom and it prominently shows the day and date, no swiping at all.

I am running iOS10.2
