How can I create a .zip archive of my files?

The built in one crashes after it reaches 900 files so I need a good alternative one that is FREE.

Can't you just reinstall it from the optional installs within you install DVD? I can't remember if that is an option but it's worth a look.

You could always split it into groups. 900 files seems like a lot to archive at once.

Not if you're talking about a lot of small text files like as in -- say -- the source code for for a medium-sized software engineering project.

Try Stuffit. Don't know if it is free, but there should at least be a trial version.
