Apparently, Apple did a big secret update last night? Anyway there's an app I've used to open my gate. This morning I go out and it's gone. I'm not even sure what it's called. Gate Master? Q Master? I can't find it, and yet I just used it yesterday!! It's a MASSIVE inconvenience to not have it. Not in the apps store. I just want to call the company and see if and when they're going to update it or what the problem is.

Turn off auto update of everything. If that app is no longer in the App Store then it's gone.

I've never seen Apple delete something from my phone. Usually it just stops being updated. Can you go into your iTunes app / purchase history and find it?

Don't think Apple deletes apps off of people's devices.

If they didn't delete I have no idea where it is. I thought I had done something stupid and moved it unintentionally. I put it in a very specific location. Not there. No icon. I went to the apps listed on my phone. Not there. I looked at the app store on my phone. I have not gone to iTunes to look at those apps.

I have "lost apps" by accidentally deleting them. It has happened twice (and will never happen again).

This is what happens:
iPhone gets placed in pocket after I THINK I locked it - but it didn't lock, so then it's on & live in my pocket.

After enough jostling around with an active screen in my pocket, a long press somehow is registered on the icons and they go into jiggly mode (pre-delete). Then more jiggling around and an app actually gets deleted accidentally-while phone is in pocket.

To prevent that from ever happening again, I now turn on restrictions to prevent deleting apps. No problem since.

It could be. Possible. It was my first thought, but I couldn't see how I could have done it. Maybe.

Apple doesn’t delete apps.......
Actually it can happen, and can be annoying. If you have the ‘Offload unused app’ setting turned on, which I have on my phone because I run out of memory [the icon stays on the phone and if you go to use it reloads] I’ve found that some Apps are no longer available. I think I have paid for some which won’t reload, which I feel is wrong.

Off topic, I worry that the same will happen with my music / tv / movies I have bought which are in the cloud and Apple no longer have the rights to sell, will I lose those items?

Yep, I paid 15 bucks for an app that is on my old phone, has been removed from the app store, and I have no way to get it on my new phone. Sucks.

Yeah, in this case it seems like that wouldn't really apply given that the icon seems to be gone as well.

I use to work for iTunes support and we get inquires like this all the time.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201272

Essentially you just need to Redownload your past purchase. This applies to apps that were deleted from the App Store.

Few thing you’ll want to note:
Make sure you are signed into the Apple ID that you used to originally download/purchase the app. You can check your purchase history to confirm.

Also make sure the app isn’t hidden, which can prevent redownloading. If it’s hidden you can unhide it.

Lastly, if all else fails. You can reach out to iTunes support and they can regrant the app back into your download queue. This is only possible of the app is still on the store servers (even if not currently on the App Store)

I'm not sure that works in all cases. If the app has actually been removed from the App Store by the developer, for example, there might not be an option to download it (assuming it even shows up in the section to begin with).
