    Whats your graphics card?

When do you get the error?

    Nvidia GeForce 6600LE

And I get it just after the Ubuntu installing screen with the dots.

You'll probably want to ask this question over at the Ubuntu forums.

You may need to install the Nvidia drivers, if there are any for your card.
Go to software sources and click on the Additional Drivers tab and see if drivers are available.

Have the same problems with late G5 + geforce 6600. Ubuntu 13.04 stopped at the same point as yours. 12.04 ran in low graphics mode but libreoffice failed to work. Ubuntu 10.04 seems good so far (2 days). Debian looked OK. Fedora no chance and no graphics for openBSD.
No nvidia drivers for powerpc. This is all I know so far.
