How can I read raw data from the IR sensor/use a different remote?

Is there any program that can display the raw signals coming in on the IR sensor? Also, how can I program it to use a remote other than the overpriced Apple Remote?

some apps just support other remotes. Eg plex will natively support a harmony remote.

Alternatively you can use 'remote buddy' which will support harmony remotes and let you control other apps.

I think the mac itself will only recognise Apple remote button presses, but it can support more than one apple remote. So support apps pretend to be multiple remotes and map the controls accordingly.

What about reading the raw data? Is there a program I can use to display the signals? You know, just cause it would be cool.
