My cousin has an old Android smartphone that for some reason can’t receive 100mb video files via text message.

im wondering if there’s a good app or something out there where I can reduce the file size of a video before sending it. Ideally like 15mb or something.

I send my iPhone friends 250mb files constantly without issue (though takes a few minutes), but android users can’t receive video files that are too large.

These are the two apps I always use before sending a video via Messages:

First- you've got to find out how big the original is. I use this app;

The Photo Investigator by Daniel Anderson

Then you've got to compress it. I use this app:

Video Compress - Shrink Vids by Brachmann Online Marketing GmbH & Co. KG

Then you need to check the file size of the compressed video again with the Photo Investigator app to make sure the size still isn't too big.

I've found that if you choose the 720P preset in the Video Compress app, the file size will be small enough and the quality good enough for a video no longer than 30 seconds.

Once a video is resized and compressed with the Video Compressor app, IOS Messages won't try to compress it again when sending it. It'll send the file unmolested -- unlike when sending an original video.

My experience with the Video Compressor app is that it will allow you to send a higher quality video that looks better than just letting Messages do it on its own.

Is WhatsApp not a option? Or is that restricted?
