Hello guys,
I've recently bought a black MacBook A1181 from 2006 for about 50 bucks. As it is with many of the A1181 models the top case had chipping but I've already found a replacement for that. What I've noticed from the start is that the sleep indicator isn't working at all. Upon removing the top case I've discovered that the cable which leads to the sleep indicator is ripped and I honestly don't know how to get it out from the hard drive bay (please see attached photos). Has anybody of you guys replaced the sleep indicator of a MacBook Model A1181? I have some experience as I replaced the top case, optical drive and screen on 2 of my white MacBooks A1181 but I really don't know how to get the sleep indicator out for replacement.

I would highly appreaciate any hints :)

Best regards.

Apple's service manual only shows a picture of the ribbon cable for that sleep LED (which also includes the IR receiver). It attaches to the hard drive connector.
Nowhere in that manual is anything else mentioned about that tiny board. No part shows in the included Exploded Views, which usually name a part, and also show a part number.
There is nothing else in the manual. It appears to be a part of the bottom case, and is apparently not transferable. Ripped cable on that means that you need to find a different bottom case. A black bottom case will be a challenge to find, I imagine.

Thank you very much for your reply. That is very unfortunate :-( I'll guess I have to use it without IR functionality and without the sleep indicator then ...

Another possibility is to find a similar white MacBook, which doesn't even need to be working, and try to transplant that board to your black MacBook.
In the end, the sleep LED doesn't affect the operation of the system, just an indicator light, and not too many users have a use for the IR receiver.
