How do I restore a backup of my iPhone on iOS 18.1 to a downgraded version of iOS 17.6.1? I was told I can do it, but not exactly sure how. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And before I get backlash, I know that’s what I get for downloading a beta, I understand that. If I can’t do anything, then that’s fine as well. I’ll just have to restore when the initial RC release comes out. Any help is greatly appreciated! TIA! 🙏

You need Windows + iTunes or macOS + iTunes [Mojave and older] or macOS + Finder [Catalina and newer]

What version is the backup, iOS 17.x or iOS 18.x ?

You cannot use iOS 18.x backup and restore it on iOS 17.x

You cannot use iOS 18.1 backup with iOS 17.6.1 or iOS 18.0 for that matter, as they are not backwards compatible. If you don’t have an archived backup of iOS 17.6 saved on your computer, you might be better off staying with your iOS 18.1 beta for the next two months, as once iOS 18.0 is out in September, all the effort will shift to iOS 18.1 and you will have more frequent beta releases and bug fixes.

The detailed Apple instructions about rolling back your software can be found here:

You can if you have a computer and edit the plist to change the software version number of the backup.

I restored a 18.1 backup onto 18 without issue on both my iPad and iPhone.

My bad, found the instructions here:

Thank y’all. I’ll just have to wait until the official release and go from the beta to the official when I turn off the beta updates. My backup on iCloud is on iOS 18.1 Public Beta. Never updated from there.
