What I currently do is scan a document through my HP printer, which comes out as a JPEG. I then convert the JPEG to PDF, and then reduce the PDF's size in Preview to a more acceptable size for emailing.

What do most offices/people use for doing all of this automatically?

Also, for multiple-page PDFs, I scan in all my documents as JPEGs, open them up in Preview, save them as PDFs, and then resize them like before. What do most people use for multiple-page PDFs so they are not huge in size?

All of the PDFs I send are OK in size (unless it's like 20 pages, in which case it's about 20MB in size, which is not acceptable for emailing), but the PDFs people send to me look just as good as mine, but are a fraction of the size.

There should be options in the scanner settings dialogue box to change the resolution of your scan. Does the scanner not give the option to import as a PDF?
