Bought an Apple trackpad two on eBay. Seller seems reputable but I received the item in the mail today and putting on the serial number on the Apple website brings no results.

It was sealed and the packaging looks legit hoping this is a legit item

looks legit feels legit

just dang verify on the Apple site

Apple does not maintain a serial number database for peripherals like the magic keyboard, trackpad and mouse. Apple tracks only their main products through the serial number and not the peripherals, that is why you cannot find it in Apple's serial number database.
So, most likely than not, your Apple trackpad is fine. Especially if it recognised and connects directly to your machine without probing and show as Apple trackpad in the bluetooth list, I wouldn't worry that much about it.

If it looks like one, feels like one, labeled like one, performs like one (and assumingly you got a good price), I’m puzzled by where your concern is?

is it a concern of Longevity? IME even no name dirt cheap keyboards last longer than their use case (I’ve got 1 or 2 cheap old keyboards in the closet that still work in a pinch). Any issue I’ve had with keyboards have been due to the Big Gulp malfunction ?

type in the serial number identical to most serial numbers on the outside of the box (main serial number) on google search

If you see the trackpad listed on the search results with images showing the exact model then you most likely received a LEGIT model

Google search for a trackpad serial number? How would you expect any results from that? As mentioned above, serial numbers for peripherals are not tracked, at least not publicly. The only way that MIGHT show up would be if that peripheral was added to your AppleCare, and even then, probably would just show a device name (trackpad) and then would likely only track to the system that is primary on the AppleCare account (and, that primary system will not be a trackpad)
