How can Messages icon be deleted

Hi,

I just upgraded OS's and would like to delete the Messages icon from my screen. I press and hold, causing it to jiggle, but there is no "X" to delete it.

You can't delete stock iOS apps.

You can't delete it, but if you are jailbroken, you can hide it.
