fact check (for loads of Apple fans):

If, for example, Samsung came up with a brand new phone with a notch like the on the iPhone X, macrumors (and ofcourse Reddit) would completely take the piss out of that notch (yeah, you know this...you just won't admit it ;) )

It's like Apple trained a certain group of Apple fans people just to like everything Apple throws at them and they will instantly happy with it.

and no, I am not a troll. Still love all my Apple devices I got over the years.

The notch (and the fact that they share the same processor) is exactly why I chose the 256GB 8+ over the X. Also not sold on FaceID yet. I’ll keep this phone for two years and see where we are. I always keep my phone for 2 years (I’ve been on the “s” cycle for a while now).

I just can’t get with the “artificial” borders - I think I prefer real ones.

Because Apple often has a good reason for their thinking, and they back it up with passion and enthusiasm for why they made the choice. Even with a technical background, if I can buy their reasoning, I'm all for it.

Samsung sort of just throws a bunch of stuff at the wall - like all of their throwaway retina scanning, eye-scrolling, etc features that never became popular because they were iffy. Apple's passion for what they do goes a looooooong way in justifying actions taken for many, and it's usually for good reason with lots of R&D behind it. (camera bump = significantly better optical performance; notch = basically a Kinect depth sensing array becoming possible).

And this doesn't happen on Android forums to Apple products?

But, I agree with you about the sheeple attitude of the Apple fanboy's, I also have the same thoughts about the rabid Android fanboy's too though. That notch is dang ugly! Glad I went with the 8 plus! :D

While I've no desire to indulge the "Apple is doomed" stuff, I think it is true that had Samsung come out with a notch and Apple released a phone more like the S8 in style we would be reading a LOT of posts saying how ugly those notches are, how it's a gimmick, how it only works in portrait, how it proves Samsung just throw any idea at the wall and most of all how much more elegant Apple's design is.

I suspect that head to head the iPhone X will still be nicer physically than the S8 because Apple really makes things to a wonderful level of quality but ultimately I have to confess that I think the Samsung approach of a very thin bezel top and bottom, keeping things symmetrical, is more elegant. On an optimistic note, maybe as the software is improved to work around the notch it will become less of an issue.

I just don't think Apple would ever go with a design that looks exactly like their competitors. No better way to do it than the unique shape caused by the inclusion of a ridiculous amount of miniaturized facial scanning tech.

I am still torn between the 8 Plus and the X. I just cant get that Notch out of my head....with all my doubting of what to choice, a notch grew between my eyes over the last few days :D
Kinda like this, I'd imagine! ;)
