This happens to me with various websites. With several of these websites, downloading an extension that blocked scripts (specifically created to block sites that try to get some free bitcoin mining) stopped this. Couchtuner is an example.

Something on the Crucial website is causing my CPU to spike like mad (and it presumably is not flash because the version of Chrome I am using blocks it by default). I wonder if it has to do with the revolving advertisement?

Some websites have a lot of layers and multiple elements with long running scripts. In simple terms, there's a lot to process and render on the webpage, causing your system to go into turbo mode. I know of a good example:

https://store.lifeseasons.com/#all

Whenever I would visit this site, the fan in my MacBook Pro would always go crazy after about a minute or so from scrolling up and down the page.

Try visiting this site in Safari and wait a couple minutes:

http://www.crucial.com

Do your fans go insane? Mine do. Not sure why. What is it about certain websites that causes this to happen?

Tried it on Chrome without any adblock addons. The problem is, the site eats all of the CPU for some reason and doesn't stop. So of course the laptop will need to cool it.

With adguard, there's no such problem there.

Alright, so it happens on any browser. Some sites are just badly designed, then.

I'll remember to view Crucial's products on Amazon next time :D

Also never heard of AdGuard, so I'll check that out. I use Safari and Chrome at the same time most of the time.

No irregular fan activity at that site on my 2008 Unibody Macbook using the Maxthon browser in El Capitan…but I’ve also found that it’s the only browser that can run video in fullscreen without stuttering or fan issues.

I've only been using Maxthon for a little while, but I am really digging it.

Since 6 months ago I exclusive browse using the Safari on my Mac as Chrome gets the CPU and fan working hard.

This is not the case on my Lenovo X1(i5-4200 1.6Ghz, 8GB RAM) running 2 monitors with a closed lid.

same here. my Dell, my cheap Lenovo didn't have a problem. but my 2017 MacBook Pro 13 nTB with 16G RAM .. and cost a huge £1800 .. struggles with basic websites.

The pro machines are not meant to be email and web laptops .. they're meant to be more capable.

My 2015 13 MBP was ok as far as I can remember, and a 2015 15" that I'm using at the moment seems not to suffer like my 2017 did.
