How come "Continue search on server" isn't reliable?

Sometimes mail just tells me "nothing found", altough I KNOW there is something to be found. 5 minutes later I try again and the results do show up...

I don't get it. It happens with all of my different mail accounts/servers (all of them being IMAP).

Any ideas?
