Sorry if this has already been asked before a thousand times, couldn't find an answer via search.

Does Apple not want that?

Actually it has only been asked 999 times before. The reason is because Apple doesn't allow it. WHY????, as usual only Apple knows.

Possible/maybes:

  • Copyright infringement
  • Ive/Apple doesn't want 'fart apps' faces
  • Apple knows best
  • Control over white to black ratio (battery)

What he said and Hermes exclusives would be replaced by "funny faces". This is the same reason we can't mod iOS like android.

It's likely to do with copyright contingencies. Apple never officially elaborated why. And the consensus seems to be we would all like more Watch face options.

I understand all the reasons why the they don't allow it, but a simple solution would be to set stricter guidelines and monitor them more carefully before approving

Right, so then we'll see users complaining about how they can't make their AW into a Fauxlex or Feiko like they can with a Moto360.

I have a friend who just got a Samsung Gear S3 and he was showing off/us the tons of different watch faces including fake Omegas, Rolex and IWC's and what not, but after a few days the novelty wears off, I can see why Apple doesn't venture into this, besides copyright infringements.

Thank goodness we can't, developers who produce those should be sued.
It's not worth it since it would cost a lot with little to no monetary gain. Android being open makes this much harder. However if Apple did allowed then being a 100% proprietary/liable system and with deep pockets it would turn into a sue Apple fest. Just look at what a 'lazy' Apple developer cost Apple a few years ago by copying a Swiss railroad clock.

Honestly glad developers can't, cringe everytime I see dumb faces on those S2 and Hawaii watch models,

I would like Apple to keep putting at least 3 faces with every update, and I was very happy with the Numerals face

If memory serves me, this was one of the promoted benefits of the apple watch, then when it arrived we could not add new watch faces. This missing feature is probably one of the biggest disappointments I have with the apple watch

I don't remember it ever be advertised with custom faces

I don't think it was advertised, but I think it was mentioned prior to its arrival that developers could create custom watch faces. I could be wrong, as my memory can be sketchy at time :)

Yeah still don't recall that, it was however shown with the Photo face in the 10 minute intro video, which only arrived with watchOS 3

I remember Photos being available to use as faces (well, backgrounds, technically) in watchOS 1 (or whichever one was available before Sept 2015):

But, yeah, it wasn't until watchOS3 where we could add complications to all faces including Photos.

Go back and ask Apple, then.

Go ahead and say that people "on the forums" are wondering.

I'm sure that'll go over real well.
How does one even contact Apple? Who would you contact? Marketing, software engineering, design, press?
