How come developers can't create Watch faces yet?

This is exactly why they don't allow developers to create their own faces. If you want a nice rectangular face like Hermés then you are going to pay for it with cash. Previous posts have calculated the cost of a square face was well over several hundred dollars. Apple are not going to give that away for free.
Also Nike wouldn't buy a sponsorship deal with apple to get their logo on the apple watch if they knew anyone could have the same experience for $0.99
Apple can't allow it. Will never happen. Even with the strict guidelines they have on the App Store we have thousands upon thousand with crappy apps. Can you imagine a Watch face store being popular with about 8 approved Watch faces and nothing more? They would either have to allow everything and get sued or only allow what they ship with the Watch already.
If they did find a middle road, who gets paid? I'm sure Rolex would block everything resembling their designs and why would they themselves sell a Watch face when they want you to wear a fine $3000+ jewelry made by them?

Agreed. I think it would create a a lot of unnecessary issues if they can be avoided with litigation lawsuits over badging and emblems being used for the Apple Watch faces. Although, I do wish Apple would release a few more watch faces then just two or three of them once a year. I'd like to see at least a variety of different watch faces that would allow for more options.

The only person at Apple that you'd ever get a response from is Craig, nobody else emails back
