I have a hard time in finding a non-black bag for my MBP 17". Any idea why most of the bags are in black? A salesman said that black makes the users look more "professional"...

It's what most people buy.

It's more discreet.

Dirt/dust/grime doesn't show as bad.

Black goes with everything. Colors can clash.

Black is neutral. Colors make statements (pink=woman, red=bold, green=treehugger, teal=colorblind, etc.)

they originally started making them in all sorts of designs and beautiful colors, but then tried black in the early 80's and never went back.

Personally, I prefer my tech gear to be discreet. I put tape over the MBP's big glowing Apple, I travel with standard backpacks, I use a plain DSLR strap rather than the big bright "Company Name" one and use an ugly blocky iPhone case. This stuff is expensive and since my only contribution to these companies is that I gave them money in exchange for a product, then I really dont get off on people staring at my work tools.

Personally I prefer bright color. Black look more for adults than for young people.
