And the hotspot consumes precious battery life. Using this logic, there is no point in Apple offering cellular connectivity on the iPad either.
huh? Your logic is faulty. Hotspots or intergrated LTE/5g use extra battery, so no difference. You can always plug your phone into your iPad or Mac to charge. There is no point for intergrated 5g if you are an iphone owner since your devices autojoin your phone if no wifi is detected if you have it setup that way. The only reasoning I can see for integrated cellular is companies owned devices where the employers wants you connected all the time and they don't provide the cell phone.

IMHO: From a CPU/GPU perspective, the M1/Pro/Max are based on A14 architecture. So IF Apple decide to do an annual refresh (big if) we will probably see similar M2/Pro/Max chips using A15 architecture with little else changed (slight increases in performance).

I suspect keeping the same chip designs across iOS devices & macs makes financial sense as well. So this bodes well for annual chip improvements for all macs going forward.

Gone are the days of relying on Intel chips to design around which caused macs to utilize older intel chips.

TSMC Roadmap Update: 3nm in Q1 2023, 3nm Enhanced in 2024, 2nm in 2025

  • 2022: I doubt Apple will prioritize Macs for the 3nm process node so I am not holding my breath that the 2022 iMac 27" replacement will be sporting a 3nm Apple Silicon. It will probably be using a M1 Pro or M1 Max.
  • 2023: the good news is that the after 2 years the replacement of my 2021 iPhone 13 Pro Max will be using a 3nm Apple A17 Bionic SoC.
  • 2025: the replacement of my 2018 iPad Pro 11" & 2023 iPhone Pro Max will be using a 2nm process Apple A19 Bionic SoC and M3 SoC.
  • 2030s: 1nm process will be old news by then. My iMac & MBP a decade from today will be so awesome. Hopefully 16TB of memory & 512TB of storage are the norm for the base model. Will 1TB be the base storage of the iPhone Pro Max & iPad Pro?

By bringing back the glowing logo.
I thought about that when I got my M1 Air, but I can't see it, so it's not really that big of a deal, to me anyway. Now the chime, I really like that it's back, but, I hardly ever hear it because it's been 33 days since my last re-start.

Seems like they got it >95% right with this one. Just a few things to make it (essentially) a perfect laptop in 2022:

FaceID
Wi-Fi 6E
ARMv9/3nm
more colors (I like silver, but a more options always better)

My guess is that the various processor SKUs we are seeing right now is due to the binning process. As their yields improve, we may see Apple streamline their laptop offerings by making the better processor options available for cheaper. But I don’t expect very significant updates to it in the near term. Pro Mac users have signalled that they are perfectly fine with a conventional laptop form factor with a powerful processor, sustained performance, long battery life, magsafe and tons of ports. As long as Apple doesn’t screw up the OS experience, they are pretty much safe.

The M2 iPad Pro later this year should run circles around the M1. lol
There won't be any new iPads this year. Maybe in the Spring. But I'd gather Apple will introduce the M2 in the Mac before the iPad, so I'm thinking no iPad Pro refresh with the M2 before Spring 2023.

Well the M1 and M1 Pro and M1 Max are vastly different in terms of size.

Up to 128 gb RAM
DDR5 RAM
PCI5 architecture (read/write speeds around 14,000 mb/s
An option to buy it without a screen (!)
Hybrid RAM (allow users to add secondary RAM)

I think Apple will do a light update of the new MacBook Pros in 2022 - probably a press release update rather than something worthy of an event.

I think it will be something like:

- FaceID as the 'big' feature for 2022
- Centre Stage
- 1TB base storage (if Apple are feeling generous!)
- 6Ghz WiFi
- minor clock speed boost (Apple no longer talks about clock speeds so 'up to 5% faster CPU' type language)
- dealing with anything that crops up on the V1 models

Yeah I doubt Apple will be ready by 2022, but if they are I'd expect M2 would be in there. M3 for 3nm? M3 rollouts in 2023/2024 will be huge. I'd get the M1 Max now, skip the M2 and go for it when they go to the M3.

Face ID is obvious for next iteration given huge notch size
HDMI 2.1
Wi-Fi 6E
Better SoC, especially on GPU department
Ethernet port on power supply ?

I would not be surprised if Apple slow a bit the upgrade cycle again for the next MBP 14/16 to 18/24 months especially since they are managing SoC this time which is a bit more complicated for them from a supply perspective.

EASY!
by supporting the laptop for several more years.
at least 8?
but i doubt apple will do that.

Pretty much this

I never understood this. I mean, when you're using the system, you have it open, and you can't see the logo. So...?
Apparently you haven't seen the whole wealth of LED products whose sole purpose in life is to add illumination to anything. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't have a kit to add interior illumination to the toilet... you know, so you don't have to turn on the light at night.
