Why is any of this discussion relevant? You have 2 accidental damage claims. Use one to have the screen replaced. Just be mindful of the deductible and if the increased sales price will make sense. Or leave it to the new buyer since the phone is still covered. Just be sure to transfer AC+ as it does not convey to the new owner automatically.
Thats the issue. This does not qualify for that. Under Apple's TOS, it requires that the screen to be cracked to use your deductible. So that leads to the insurance fraud discussion.

Okay, well. Thank you all for the vastness of your replies. I really didn’t feel comfortable with deliberately damaging the phone, despite at this point having paid $130 in monthly AppleCare payments.

I will take it to the store to attempt a repair as is though. The scratches happen to be right where the text entry is, and I do see them as I type. If they reject it, they reject it.

And yes, to the people who suggested a screen protector, it’s already been ordered for the 12, thank you

Warning

I thought I just had a normal crack. My phone and everything with it worked perfectly fine. It was during the middle of the pandemic, so I waited a while to get it fixed with the store situation.

My phone ended up rejecting the two replacement screens they tried, so they had to give me a new unlocked phone. So what you think is a normal crack, mine wasn't even big, might lead to something larger.

On the other hand, not sure this is actually a warning, but yeah, you should know what I mean.
