Word of mouth.

When my P4 became unruly with XP, I figured I was up for a new challenge.

That was February 2008.

Would I buy another?? Probably, but I will hold my nose, given the way Jobs, et al, treat their loyal customer base.

Im still trying to fit into mine :D

On a more serious note I used a spare Mac that belonged to one of my friends while my gaming rig was being fixed. It was fixed - I brought a Mac.

Started on my ibook g4 (which I still have) and then started going to school where 95% of the student body uses mac.. pretty much got hooked from there.

A while back I enrolled on a Photoshop course at the local college which used Macs. I loved the design of the PowerMac G4 hardware but didn't like OS9. A couple of years later my friend introduced me to OS X and his new iPod and I was impressed.

Six months later I bought an iPod 3G, quickly followed by a MDD PM G4 and iBook G3 and I was hooked. :)

I needed a new laptop for college and it ultimately was the two finger scrolling ability on the new glass trackpads that made me buy my first Mac in late 2008.

I was a Windows power user from Windows 3.11 to Win XP. I hated OS9 and OS X wasn't powerful enough for me until Tiger. I saw the Apple keynote on Tiger and Spotlight (live search) and it knocked my socks off. I started researching Tiger and decided I would get a 12" PowerBook. Fantastic little machine. When my wife's PC died she started using my PowerBook and after a week wanted her own. I bought her a MacBook for her birthday.

Young'uns, the whole lot of you! :p

I transitioned from an Apple IIe to a Mac back in '84. I was 10 at the time. Parents didn't buy it, though, as they had bought the IIe for me. I kept up with it ever since, and still have the IIe to this day. I might see if I can dig out the install disks to System Software 7.. they're somewhere around here..

BL.

hehe - I agree sonny, I was 31 at the time (1984)
ya young whippersnapper you :D

I wanted to use Adobe Illustrator v1. It was only available on the Mac, so I got a Mac and have been using them ever since. Never used a Windows PC.

My cousin got one before he went to college and 5 years later, when it was my turn, I did a lot of research and since Macs were able to run Windows, I'd figure I'd try out the MBP and just install Windows if things went bad. Turns out, I like it way better than I like PCs, and I am now in the market for my second Mac (either an iMac or a new MBP). My brother also got a MB and I just stole his iPod Touch that he got with the education deal 2 years later.

msn stopped working on my windoze laptop, i bought a powermac G4, then a G5 am back on a PC again now though, hoping soon enough to take delivery of a powermac G5 some day soon if things work out :p
time to upgrade to a macpro man.... :D

Me, too. I've never owned a PC. Converted my wife when we were first dating, too.
same story here! girlfriend cant put her MBP down.

My dad brought home a Mac in '95 and we/I stuck with them ever since.
ditto - dad bought home a ][e when i was a few months old, purchased our first PC in 2000 (1GHZ Celeron with 256MB RAM, 40GB HDD) and it latest about 6 months before it died. heh. still have a 1999 iMac working.

I got into Macs after discovering them at school (our Music department had original iMacs).

I had a 1st gen iPod Nano...and I really loved it. I had used the old imac g4's when I was in 1st grade and I thought those were so cool because you could see through them and the monitor was the computer. Although it never really struck me that it was a MAC vs a normal PC. I first really seriously started using macs in my video productions class. We used the final cut suite to edit our videos and do all sorts of things. I really loved final cut and started to dink around with the imacs. I fell in love and decided that I really loved using OSX and Macs. Also i really wanted to use final cut :p

Was using Windows 95 on a crappy old Packard Bell computer, then one day I saw a commercial with Jeff Goldblum showing a slick all-in-one form factor computer, the iMac. I decided to try it and have never looked back.

School had them in the 3rd grade or something. Them my aunt/uncle would keep one during summer because they were teachers. Lots of Oregon trail.

Exactly the same thing with me! In elementary school, we only had Mac, the iMac G3s I believe. Whenever we went to the computer rooms, I'd run straight for the red ones (my favorite color). And yes, lots and lots of Oregon Trail.

But I didn't get my own mac until last May. I was a PC all throughout college (for monetary reasons) and then in my last year, I decided to treat myself to something nice.

I was ready to move up from my Tandy Color Computer II. I wasn't a big Apple II fan, but Apple had just come out with the Mac so I bought one. The rest is history!

In 1995 or there abouts my friend convinced me not to get a 5120(?) all in one with a tv card - so I got a PC. Then I worked for an all mac agency on quadras and 6100s.

Loved working on the macs and quickly began becoming frustrated with my PC - so bought an 8500 - I think it was probably my favourite desktop til my current machine. Favourite laptop was the pismo G3. Great machine.

Windows to Mac - How did you take your Leap

Back in 1996 I got my 1st Windows computer in 1999 I built my own.
In winter of 2006 i bought a Compaq Laptop still in use (friend has it).
In winter of 2008 I bought a HP laptop, still in use (niece has it)

The reason for buying a new computer 2 years apart was, it was always given me problems, even with using Fire Fox, Safari or IE 6,7, or 8. Formatting, System restore, you name i tried it.

Winter 2010 looking to buy a new HP, Gateway or DELL something like that, & there only $350.00 - $500.00 how can you pass that up, well its easy when you say to yourself why buy into another problem lets see what people are talking about when they say MAC is the best. So I ordered my 1st MacBook Pro 13inch.

I ordered my MacBook Pro on a Saturday. My sister got a new Gateway the next day, Sunday. On Wednesday my sisters Gateway Froze up on her the day before I received my MacBook Pro.

Today is 6 months to the day that I got my MAC.

My MacBook Pro runs, never a problem love it to death. If i ever need a new computer and cant afford a new one i will buy a ten year old MAC before i buy a Windows based system.

What I tell Windows users when they ask is it hard to use, I tell them the truth. Its pretty much the same layout, programs have different names that you can learn in no time at all. (no one I know changed over yet, but soon they will).

My Name is Howie, & I am Proud to say I'm a Mac user

Hello to MacRumors

Welcome. If you use the search function you will find there are quite a few of these threads around here.

Macs are good for certain things but it really all depends on what you use it for. I would never trade my gaming desktop I built myself for a Mac simply because Macs just suck in games compared to PC with Windows. There are other applications where PC really shines while Mac doesn't. When it comes to laptops though, I agree, Mac is pretty much the best right now. Which is why my own laptop is a Mac.

This kind of post has been made before, but it never hurts to start a fresh one.

I more or less started on mac, switched to a windows based machine later on because I needed a new computer that was affordable, than recently switched back to mac because of numerous problems I had with windows based machines over the years.

In the 80's I had a TI994A (which I still own).

Around 1990 or so I bought a 286 based machine, but only had it for a day or so when I realized I had no real use for it.

Flash forward to maybe 1994 I bought a powerbook which I had for about 6 months when I bought a performa 636.

I had that perform 636 for until 1999 when I bought an HP Pavilion because of its affordability, and because I was also into gaming alot more back than. That computer lasted until 2002 when it was replaced by a DELL. After awhile both windows based machines started developing lots of errors and really started acting slow, so I in 2006 I bought a MBP for and an imac and never looked back.

Its doubtful I would ever get a windows based machine again unless I had to because of finances.

If I was
