Chase Freedom Promo--15 months 0% interest & $100 CB

I used the Chase Freedom Card:

http://www.dailymarkets.com/creditcards/chase-freedom-card/

(^^^^Gives all the Pros of the card--Currently, highest rated card they have listed)

0% interest for 15 months and $100 Cash Back for a $500 or more purchase within first 3 months. No annual fee. Paired with the education discount and $100 Apple Gift card, I think I scored. If you continue to use the card regularly, it also has rotating 5% cash back categories (all others 1%), which is a nice deal.

A friend of mine showed me this promo and I figured it was the perfect one to use to get my RMBP. I'm anxiously awaiting its arrival. :D

I went for maximum savings on my purchase of the MacBook Pro with Retina Display 2.6Ghz/16GB/512GB!

Retail Price
15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display
w/ Apple Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter: $3,028.00
AppleCare Protection Plan for MacBook Pro: $349.00
Subtotal: $3,385.00
Estimated CA Sales Tax: $278.60
Total: $3,663.60

But instead of the normal Apple Store, I used a company sponsored employee purchase program.

EPP Prices
15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display
w/ Apple Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter: $2,794.00
AppleCare Protection Plan for MacBook Pro: $307.00
Subtotal: $3,101.00
Estimated CA Sales Tax: $229.85
Total: $3,330.85

I made the purchase using my Capital One Cash Rewards credit card, giving me 1.5% cash back!
3,330.85 * 1.5% = $49.96

I also used Upromise to net me an additional 5% cash back on the total purchase!
$3,330.85 * 5% = $166.54

$3,330.85 EPP Price
- $49.96 Credit Card Cash back
- $166.54 Upromise Cash back
= $3,114.35

This is by far the most expensive computer I've ever purchased, but at least I saved a whopping $549.35 on it! ;)

With cash. I did use my military discount though.

Edit: I consider my debit card "cash"

No debit card has a spend limit that high, so you used credit on that debit card perhaps.

----------

Financing a depreciating asset?

No thanks

ZERO PERCENT FOR 12 or 18 months makes perfect sense if you pay if off on time.

----------

Cashed a check from CapitalOne with 3.9% Interest, then paid via my debit card. Too bad Chase doesn't give 3pts for every dollar spent on debit transactions anymore. :(

Those checks usually have a transaction fee.

15" 2.7GHz RMBP with 16GB RAM and 768GB SSD = SGD$5118
with EPP = $4709 savings of $409

All prices inclusive taxes

Spending habits vary but the Amex Blue is a comparable card.

The only problem with this is not ever establishing a credit history makes it harder to qualify for good loan rates for things like college or a mortgage. Using a credit card and not carrying a balance, on the other hand, helps establish credit history while effectively being the same as using a debit card, since you're never spending money you don't have.

Very good advice. It's also much safer to use a credit card. A crook cleaning out your debit card account is a lot harder to deal with than a credit card account.

I use a credit card as if it's a debit card. I purchase stuff on it and then transfer the money to cover it at the end of the month. Most credit cards have around 60 days interest free so you never pay anything.

In addition, in some countries your bank will charge a per transaction fee when using a credit card or a debit card to purchase goods using a point of sale system. Normally the transaction fees are A LOT more when using a debit card (don't ask me why).

I purcachased mine with my business CC, which is paid off every month. I prefer to pay for as much as I can with my business and personal CC's, so I can get the Airmiles.

Oh damn, I never thought about spending limits. My debit card has a $1000 daily spending limit, how would I go about purchasing a rMBP online, when it costs around $2270? :\

Used the barclay card. 0% for 12 months is a hell of a deal. Looking to pay it off in a few months. Like someone said a couple posts before me. Using credit is almost the same thing as long as you dont live beyond your means. I do none of that. I carry a $0 balance on my current credit card and pay it off at the end of the month. Can I pay for it cash now? Of course. Much rather pay it off later with other peoples money from my wedding next month, and after the honeymoon ( which is already paid for cash )

I too carry a $0 balance on my CC but for this large of a purchase it's just easier for me to spread it out over a few months.

Nice although I wouldnt wanna be in debt for a laptop for 24 months. Are you planning on paying it off sooner?

Off course. But getting 24 months on 0% interest is better.

Keep the money in the bank and I can get a 4% return rate.

Getting debt is not the nightmare people are saying IF you get this kind of opportunities.

Thank you for serving sir. Even though I don't always condone fighting and what it brings, there is absolutely no way around it and I have the utmost respect for service members, for the mere fact that you all put your lives and safety on the line to make sure I can sit around a table with my family and enjoy civil life. So thank you. Best wishes.

I too used military discount. Love me some military discount. I plan on using this laptop on my upcoming deployment in october.

Credit all the way baby! I'm going to be massively in debt by the time I am done with med school anyways so whats an extra 3k?

A debit card can have a big spend limit as you want. All you have to do is call your bank and increase how much you can spend with it in a day.

My credit card has a 40,000 point bonus promotion going on, so I'll buy it with that and pay it off immediately.

$3.3k for a friggin notebook?! Some people are really nuts.

Without my EPP discount, mine would've been $3.3k after tax :) I do feel a bit nuts to spend the most I've ever spent on a laptop. After the frustration I've had with $1.4k to $1.8k Windows laptops, I think it is worth it to try a MBP :)

You call them and ask for the limit to be raised for a specific purchase.

I will call today and see if that is possible.

I agree. I have seen many of these types of computers purchased over the years. And later...always regret.

Apple should fly you out for a personal tour for that kind of money. Doesn't anyone see a problem with it costing that much?

I'm piling in on Apple stock. I cant loose.
