placed two (one for shipping with a later date) and managed to get another for in store pickup on the 22nd. i want to cancel the first order now but it won’t let me make changes?

I have to cancel mines as well but you should be able to in a few hours. Check again maybe in 2-3 hours. If still not available, you can chat with a rep.
 
Yeah I went to put in my prearranged pre-order but the app crashed at the end of the process. So I put in another order only to see both order confirmations pop up a few minutes later.

I was in a similar situation and my option to cancel showed up on the Apple Store app on my iPhone about an hour ago and I was able to immediately cancel the order I no longer need and now have just the 2 orders I want.
 
No option to cancel yet, order still shows as order placed ( it’s also an in store pick up which I’m assuming won’t update until Thursday at least)

My extra order went directly from pending to "Preparing to ship". Geez - I guess its a trip to the Apple Store for me.

I checked my correct order, it is now preparing to ship as well, seems like an extremely short cancellation window.
 
Looks like I am in the same boat. I ordered the Pro Max instead of the Pro on the Apple website using my old iPhone as a trade-in under the Att trade-in program. I could not cancel it as it went almost straight into preparing to ship. So I went on the AT&T site, using my daughter's old phone as the trade-in for my account, and ordered the Pro. Do you think the ATT order will go through or will the Apple Pro Max order "lock" my account?

Same here. Worse case, I’ll pick it up and return right away, unopened.
