So I bought a new headset today and plugged it in. I read that you have to change the port from output to input. How can I do that? In system preferences - sound there is no option to do that. I checked under the input tab as well!

Can someone help ASAP please!? Thanks!

PS. It is a 2012 13 inch mbp

Possible Solution

In System Pref -> Sound, there should be a slider at the bottom of the window that adjusts volume and right above that there is a "Use audio port for:" selector. It should be the top option once you click on the selector.

Much easier from the Audio Menubar icon. You just need to keep Alt key pressed before clicking it:
