so, umm Yeah, getting an iPhone from the states, had the same issue with my ipt but changed when i synced with my contacts on my mac

Installer app > Unlocking Tools > Enable International menu

A little cumbersome, but well worth the effort. I copied the suggested tags into the AU setting (not the US setting as recommended in the thread) and it works perfectly

Installing that app i suggested will take him one second and works just as well. I originally saw this method and shrugged it off as being too long for my liking.
