iOS 14 on an iPad Air 2 (which thankfully is sooooooo much less buggy than iOS 13 started out as!)

I just picked up my iPad after having not used it for probably 12+ hours (maybe over 15), and when I unlocked it, in the upper right corner of the screen it gave a brief warning that my camera had recently been in use.

wut?!?

I love and remember that iOS 14 was going to give warnings about that, which is great, only I’m have zero clue what would have been using the camera...not for the 12+ hours I wasn’t using it, and probably not for days if not weeks before that.

I looked in the privacy section of settings, thinking maybe it would list programs that had recently used the camera, like how it sort of does for location access. It didn’t list anything that had been used recently, though did show the Bing and Skype programs had access. I don’t need them to right now so toggled them off, but I hadn’t used the camera in the bing app yesterday.

as I’ve been typing this I do remember that yesterday I tried capturing a card number within safari, like how it can read credit card numbers. I’ve done that before (under 13), only yesterday it didn’t work, it just showed a black screen, so I gave up, but that would have been trying to use the camera.

is there some listing of programs that have actually USED the camera recently? That would be handy...a brief warning is better than nothing, but if I can’t track down what is/was actually using it it’s not as useful as it should be, and why is it giving me a warning more than half a day after I’ve used it?

The app that triggered the camera or mic indicator should show up at the top of control center. You won't be able to find what app last used them in settings like you can with location.

EDIT: it won't show the app there for a long time so it doesn't actually show the last app, just the last recent app that accessed cam or mic.

thanks...darn, it doesn’t show anything there for me. The notification was up there sort of above the control center, and was green, but just there for a second, long enough for me to notice it.
Would be cool if it gave you a list like location access does (which itself could be improved) but I’ll take any improvement about what programs are trying to do!

I love that it warns you about programs accessing the clipboard now. Every so should do that imo, and I’d actually like an OS level authorization for it, as so often we may have sensitive info in the clipboard and forget to clear it out with other data. Every so should address this (and should have started addressing it in the 90s, really), but at least ios 14 takes a first step!

I just noticed on my iPad Air 2 (and also on my iPhone 8) that the light will activate if my finger swipes the Lock Screen left slightly (about a finger width) toward “camera mode” without actually opening the camera.

Is it possible that the way you picked the device up shifted the Lock Screen just enough to register the camera?

wow, thanks!! I bet that’s it. I just deliberately slid it to the side just slightly, saw a green thing come on, let go and unlocked, then pulled down the control center, and it briefly had thr message that my camera had been in use, and I could tell the green thing was the camera icon I guess.

I'm almost sure that must be what caused it, as it’s SUPER easy to slide it the side as I’m adjusting my grip on it.
Thank you!

What it said was "(name of app), recently" - the name of the app just happened to be "Camera" ?
