iPad How do I close a webpage using ios8? (iPad Air)

There's no x in the corner. When I have several tabs open, there's an x on all of them except the last one, or if I only have one page open, there's no way to x out of it.

You don't need to close it. Or put differently, there is nothing to close. Just hit the home button and you're all set.

I'm wondering what the little search box in the upper left corner is for when I do this. If typed in search terms but it doesn't seem to do anything.
