iSquint is nice and Visual Hub is even better. I suggest spending the money on it for peace of mind video conversion for the iPod Touch and just about anything else.

What does visualhub do better/faster than iSquint does. I might consider purchasing it, but at the moment, 8 minutes to convert a tv episode isn't bad at all :) What do you get for your $26 (AUD)?

You get many more preset encoding defaults for Apple hardware (e.g. iPod, iPhone, & AppleTV), you can make DVDs from nearly any video source, WMV output support, DivX/XviD, and it does Flash.

I use it as my general purpose conversion software from one format to another.

I suggest reading the ChangeLog for any specific performance improvements that have been made.

My only apple hardware is my iPod Touch and 13" Macbook :)

That would be sweet, I've been looking for a program that can do this. Have you tested it out? If so, how long does it take?

WMV output support

Stuff WMA!

DivX/XviD
Is this for input or output?

I'll look this up on their site, but do you know if it can convert from .MOV to another (windows compatible) format (preferably one with very minimal to no quality loss) while preserving all settings.

My scenario is:
I have a Everio GZ-MG505 camera, shoots video in .MOD (mpg) format, which I used to edit in Premiere Elements 2 on PC. When I got my macbook, I opened up iMovie '08 and instantly loved it! Only problem is, it doesn't have a couple of features I require (slow/fast motion is one that comes to mind). Anyways, for most projects iMovie is fine, but there are a couple I'd like to be able to use the effects that iMovie doesn't have. Some people have suggested iMovie '06, but unfortunately it isn't compatible with my camera. Maybe if I convert, I could use iMovie '06 instead of PREL 2, who knows.

VisualHub is only a video conversion program. I suggest trying out the demo version first and see if it does what you want.

It can take nearly any video format and convert it into another one. It's not designed to handle any sort of editing work short of encoding. There are quick in easy settings but you can also tweak using the Advanced panel.

Losing what hard drive space? The manufacturers of storage devices define storage differently then what is actually implemented by the software.

I thought the whole memory issue was because an actual GB is 1024Mb, but when advertising how big something is, they only go by 1000Mb, and in the large sizes, those 24Mbs add up.

It's much worse than dKran suggests since it's 1024*1024*1024 vs 1000*1000*1000 so the difference between "as sold" GB and "as reported GB (actually GiB) is ~7.4%. Put another way the reported size of a drive is always ~93% of the size on the box.

The author of iSquint and VisualHub puts lots of features in vHub that are not in iSquint. Well worth the money.
