Deleting iPhone Albums

After following everyone's suggestions the only way I was able to delete my renegade albums/photos was to use PhoneView. I dragged and dropped the files 'PhotoData' and 'Photos' from the iPhone list to my iMac as backups, then selectively deleted all the iPhone photos and the thumbnails (I found that if I only deleted the photos, when I viewed the PhotoAlbum on my iPhone I still had the albums and the thumbnails - without the originals). Deleting everything but the .plists got all the photos off. Had I wanted to I could have viewed the photo infos to make sure I was deleting the renegade photos but I decided to go nuclear. Even so, I still had my user wallpaper. Had there been a PhoneView of the photos listed under the individual Album titles the process would have been easier. I haven't done a sync so I'll post again if it really worked.

I think the easiest way is to delete them when you transfer them from the iphone to the PC. You will be automatically asked weather you want to keep them or not ;)

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/8C148a)

You are correct. Except if you have created albums outside of the default album. Then the regular methods of importing and deleting don't work.

deleting photos from iPhone

This may be a little after the fact but here is how I manage my photos. First off I backup my worthwhile photos on flickr, but I'm fairly certain other photo sharing sites would work as well. For those that are not aware, Flickr(dot)com is a photo sharing website that allows social interaction between photographers and offers other options for your photos. There is both a free membership and a pay per year option.
To save photos on my iPhone I use the phone's browser to open flickr at my photo pages. I select the photo I want to save on my iPhone by applying slight pressure to the iPhone screen at which point you get the option to "Open", "Open in a new page" "Save image" or "Copy"
I select "Save image" and the photo is saved to my iPhone in the Camera Roll folder which of course then gives you the handy trash can. I find it pretty convenient.

Cheers.

6)click the "[ ]" and click choose folder
7) select the New Folder you created in your desktop
8)check "[]"Sync Photos from [New Folder]" check the box ok
9)then press sync from the south eastern corner...
please work T.T

I'm not sure when this was introduced to iOS, but if you are looking at your Camera Roll, there's a little "curvy arrow" in the upper right. If you click that (while looking at all the little thumbnails) you can select one or more pictures. When you have pictures selected, you can send them, copy them or delete them.

This is WAY faster than doing it one by one and it doesn't require you to connect to a computer. Also, you have the granular control of deleting a lot of items quickly but not deleting ALL the items.

I have this little curvy arrow however when I select photos, the only options I get at the bottom when I select the albums that came originally from iPhone are: share, copy and print. The delete option only comes up with the iPhone Camera folder pics. There must be some ap that gets these iPhoto folder pics off the camera without syncing? Does anyone know of one? (I have almost 12,000 pics that synced from my iPhoto folder.) I only want to delete some of them because folders have been automatically created that contain some duplicates. I am out of space and have to individually delete some of them.

might be easier to create a folder in iPhoto soley for iPhone sync...

...but all this problem may go away with iCloud.

Deleting multiple photos

An even easier way to delete multiple pictures....

Go to the Camera, select the last photo that was taken from the bottom left hand corner, select camera roll, then down in the bottom left hand corner of your screen theres a box with an arrow. Tap that, click on the photos you want to delete, and tap the red delete button :)

What’s with all the posters posting lately that haven’t even read the thread? Your post is only for camera roll pics. Totally useless for the synced pics, which is the topic of this thread.

But photos that are imprted into the iPhone from iPhoto during a sync cannot be deleted.

This is what I'm facing.

Are you saying the only way to do this would be to import from iphone to iPhoto, then when asked if you would like to delete the originals (on the iPhone) say 'yes'?

Also if the current photo is a iPhone wallpaper, can these be deleted from the photos library (in he same fashion as above) or is the wallpaper being used, from the photo library?

Delete with application Preview

Hi, I am sorry if this solution is already present in the huge listing, I did'nt read it through completely.

Anyway:
1. Connect your iPhone.
2. Start Preview in mac.
3. click menu File->Import from my iphone. (If not there, wait until it show up.)
4. A window will open, listing your images as thumbnails. (I had 3500 photos, so it took a couple of minutes.)
5. Select all images.
6. Click delete!

You can also import your images this way, which is my way of doing it, as I don't fancy the way iTunes organize my photos.

album/photo doesn't show up in itunes, only on iphone....

- if you take pictures with your iphone and do NOT import them to iPhoto… to delete the photo off the phone, just tap on the photo and you will see a trash icon in the lower right. tap the trash can.

- if you take pictures with your iphone and DO import them to iPhoto…. those photos will now be considered an "iPhoto Album"….and when you sync those photos BACK to your iphone, you can NOT delete them from the phone. it's protected. in order to remove those photos, you have to delete them from iPhoto either individually or the whole album…then re-sync

- if you take pictures with your iphone and DO import them to iPhoto…. those photos will now be considered an "iPhoto Album"…. if you want to KEEP the photos on iPhoto but do not want them on your phone, just plug your phone in to itunes to synce, click on the Photo's tab, and deselect the album you want the phone to exclude when syncing.

I tried this, but the photo that is on my iphone that I want to delete does not show up in itunes photos when I try to sync... it only shows up on the phone and no where else, so re-syncing doesn't work. There MUST be a way to get this freaking photo off my iphone!!!! HELP!!!!!

using itunes

for me, select iphone, select photos, select 'sync photos from', select selected albums, events, and faces, and automatically include', select 'no events'

that works.

using iphone 4s

Hello, I had over 250 photos, and finally found a simple solution - use image capture.

If you have a mac, and IMAGE CAPTURE apple program should be installed, (mine automatically pops up when plug in my iphone), choose OPTIONS ---> "Delete items off camera after downloading" and voila - you have downloaded all the pics to the folder of your choice, and the pictures are then deleted off the iphone! No itunes synching necessary! Great when you are at a friends house too

It does not work for me.

The iTunes way is the way to go.

Use image capture to delete groups of photos without import

Hi,

Think I have an easy solution for deleting groups (or singles) from iphone.

Open Image Capture (comes pre-loaded on Mac, but not in dock) from applications folder >> select your USB connected phone from the side menu >> highlight any photos you want to delete >> click the little red crossed-out circle in the bottom menu bar next to where you can select what folder to import to.

This should delete them from the phone without the need to import, and you can delete all of them, in groups, or one by one.

Cheers,

P
