I want to discontinue using VMWare Fusion 11 to run on Windows 10 on my MacBook Pro 15 (2016). The reason being if I upgrade to a higher OS, VMWare Fusion 11 will not support it and I have to buy a newer version like Fusin 12. I do not wish to continue using Windows on my MacBook Pro.

I have seen articles about how to delete or remove VMWare Fusion 11 but it is not 100% clear (a lot of mixed information) if my data and files will still be on my MacBook so I can continue to use them using on my MacBook Pro with OS Catalina 10.15.7 Note I do intend to upgrade to Monterey OS after I have dealt with the VMWare Fusion 11 removal.

Can somebody help me to go through the procedure of removing/deleting the VMWare Fusion 11 from myMacBookPro but to be able to keep all the files and data I have used when running Windows 10 in the VMWare Fusion. I want to be able to have all the data, files including pictures etc., resident on my MacBook Pro so I can access them and work with them without any problems.

Thanks in advance for assistance anyone can provide. It will be greatly and sincerely appreciated.

The files from the virtual windows install will stay resident in the vmx/vmdk files. You will not be able to browse them.

I’m confused by this post. You want to stop using because, at some future point, it may not work?

I'd think you should be able to access shared folders on the Mac in the Windows environment…I've done it in a Windows VM via Virtualbox. Then just copy the files/folders from Windows to the shared folders on the Mac.

Alternately, you could sync the files/folders to one of the cloud services.

Hello barbu,

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my post.
The issue is that I need to upgrade my Mac OS from Catalina to Monterey. When I do this my VMWare Fusion 11 will no longer work/run. It will not permit access to run my windows through VMWare Fusion 11. This would mean upgrading from Fusion 11 to Fusion 12. This is now a very costly program by way of price and the additional cost of getting techincal support if needed.

I installed the Microsoft Office software 2019 for Mac and it has everything I need to work with the programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc. Based on this fact I no longer really need to run Windows 10 with the Office suite via the VMWare Fusion platform.

That is the reason I want to discontinue using VMWare Fusion 11 on my Mac and unistall it completely (because it will not work once I upgrade my Mac OS to Monterey). However, I need to keep all the files and data that I have accumulated while using Windows with VMWare Fusion 11. I need to have full access to those files and data on my Mac side so I can continue to work with them with my Office 2019 programs on my Mac side.

At this time I can see all the files and data on both my Mac side and my Windows side, but they appear to be as shared files and data. I am trying to make them reside 100% on the Mac side only after the VMWare Fusion 11 is unistalled.

Hope this explains my issue and that will enable you to possibly assist if that is an area you are familiar with.

Many thanks in advance and kind regards

Frederick

Yeah use the file sharing feature and copy all your files off before deleting VMWare. Should be as easy as that.
